Kate had just gotten home from school and she was eating her after school snack (ice cream and Coke). Kate had a little brother who was only three. Kate was already ten and she was to big to play with his trains and tricycle. She loved to explore and play outside. Even though Kate was ten and Ryan was only three, they found a few things to do together. When Kate wanted to play exploring, they would play exploring. When Ryan wanted to ride his trike, he would and Kate would ride her bike. There was one thing that they both really liked to play. Both of them loved Hide n Seek. They could play it for hours. Kate had an idea. She decided to play hide n seek. She left her half-eaten ice cream and remaining Coke and looked around for Ryan. She looked upstairs. He was no where to be found. He checked his room. He wasn't there. She entered his room and slowly tipped-towed to his closest. She was inches away from the door. She started to turn the handle very, very slowly. She suddenly got the feeling that he was downstairs. She left the closet door closed and ran downstairs. She went all the way down to the basement. The basement was a dark and dreary place. It was one of the best hiding spots in the house, but also one of the scariests. Neither Kate nor Ryan could stand in the basement for long. Ryan would cry and say he was afraid of the dark. Kate thought there were things down there. Bad things. She new Ryan wasn't down there. She checked the living room. No one was in there. Then she realized, her parents weren't there either. They were all missing! She panicked and frantically looked around the rest of the house. She passed through the kitchen. She glanced at the fridge and something caught her eye. On her fridge was a sticky note that read:
Kate-
We are out running errands. Ryan is at daycare. Please pick him up. You can get him at 5:00, but if you want you can pick him up earlier. Please clean up any messes you made before you pick him up.

Kate realized she had been so busy finding everyone that she forgot to finish her ice cream and Coke. She turned to the table. The ice cream had been eaten and the Coke bottle was empty. She jumped out of her skin. Kate quickly threw away the trash and ran out of her house to pick up her little brother.
