A choir of voices screamed. Their feet scrambled against the floors of the infirmary. Will, on the other hand was silent. Completely lost in focus. His hands scrambled to stop the flow of blood that poured from the demigod, who lay barely concious on the bed in front of him, if he could only stop the blood. If only...
The fear in Will's heart didn't show through in his expression. Instead a fake look of concentration, this concentration was all that the others could see. His hands burning and sore from the work, covered with blood. At this point he wasn't even sure what was his own, or hers. Considering how many times he's cut through his gloves in a rush, over these last few minutes. His palms blistered over from the overuse of his powers, and yet he still sung and channeled his healing magic into the injured demigod.
He went to add another layer of gauze when his patient grabbed his wrist. Stopping him from continuing. He looked her in the eyes, and tried to continue. But she held him still further.
Will went to speak, but she stopped him
"Tell my siblings..." her sentence was interrupted by a fit of coughs. "I love them... and miss them..."
Will's eyes widened. As her hand went limp, and her eyes rolled back. Closing for the last time.
Will squeezed her hand, and whispered "will do." Then blinked the tears from his eyes, and proceeded to stand, and make his way over to his siblings.
They looked up at him expectantly. Pausing their tasks and rush.
"Is she..." Kayla said, her voice cracking. Her eyes starting to gloss over with tears.
Will nodded. "Please inform Chiron. Then you all go get some rest. You've worked hard."
Will took off his gloves and tossed them in the trash, slipping off his (coat name) and tossing it on a table. Just as he reached the door. Kayla called out from behind him "Wait where are you going?!"
Without even a glance back he replied "I've got to relay a message."
And with that he lightly closed the door behind him.
Will always hated this part. Informing someone that the person they deeply cared for died. It hurt. He took his time getting to the Athena cabin. This could be seen as a way to get his thoughts together, and plan what he was going to say. Except he knew it all too well now.
Greet. Inform. Apologize. Leave.
When he got to the cabin, he took a deep breath, then knocked.
The door swung open. Will was greeted by the enthusiastic grin of a small child. She had to be no older than 8. Her brown skin was covered in many brightly colored bandaids. Her curly hair was sucured with bright pink bows, in two pigtails. Her eyes carried a sort of innocence, that Will hoped he wouldn't break. He gulped, and pasted the best smile he could over his face.
Then she disappeared from the door. From inside Will could hear.
"Kiara? Who was it?" One voice called
"The docter guy!" Kiara, the girl who answered the door said.
"Will?"
"Someone just open the damn door." Another voice called.
Annabeth then appeared at the door. And smiled at Will. Will smiled back.
Oh gods no one will be smiling in a minute will thought to himself.
Annabeth let him in. And then asked "what brings you around here," with a laugh.
Will sighed. And let there be some silence. Until he continued, "Kaitlyn got injured in training this morning. She didn't make it."
The room, once buisy with voices, silenced.
Nearly the whole room, riddled with shock, had even a trace of tears in their eyes.
Will held it together though. If even I can't stay strong, how could they?"
He continued "I'm incredibly sorry about your loss. I'll be going now, to leave you time to process it. If you need something stop by the infirmary I'm always there."
And with that he went to step out the door.
"Will," Annabeth called, catching his attention. "Thank you for letting us know,"
Will Gave out a sympathetic smile, and nodded. Turning to leave.
The moment he closed that door. He broke down. Tears filled his vison. And he couldn't keep it together any longer.
Will marched towards the woods. Frustration and pain, plaguing his thoughts.
Some healer you are. Couldn't even save her from a simple sword wound.
A stomp feriously at the ground.
Stay up there on your high horse. "I'm sorry for your loss" please, how could you be sorry. It was your fault.
A clenched fist.
Listen to yourself. There's no reason for a death. It was training, not a war.
Will took off running. Far into the woods until he was far enough away from main camp.
Murderer
Will screamed in agony, his voice cracking as he started to sob. Each sob racked his frame. His voice muffled to the rest of camp by the trees.
"I tried..." Will sobbed. "I tried so hard..."
Well it wasn't enough. And will never be.
"I tried... so fucking hard!"
He began to punch at the hillside beside him. He punched at in until it reached stone. And even then he continue to punch.
"Shit."
He punched.
"Shit!"
He punched again.
"Shit!"
He went to punch again but a hand grabbed his wrist.
"What the hell are you doing!?"
Will knew that voice anywhere. It belonged to Nico.
Will was too ashamed to look up. Instead he stared at the grass.
"Will." Nico said, calming his voice.
Will shook his head.
"Will, look at me."
Will didn't. He began to sob instead.
Nico placed an arm on Will's shoulder.
"Sunshine. Look at me."
Will turned around. And looked nico in the eyes. His face was streaked with tears, red from his time spent crying.
Nico held out his arms, and Will fell into them willingly returning the embrace. Crying violently into Nico's shoulder Will muttered a chous of incoherent words.
Nico simply listened, rubbing soothing circles across Will's back. Whispering things like "I've got you." Or "it's not your fault." Into Will's ear.
Will pulled away. Wiping the tears from his face. He sniffled. And started to say "I'm so-"
"Hey, none of that apology shit." Nico scolded. "You're allowed to have negative emotions Mr sunshine."
Will cracked a smile, and planted a kiss on nicos cheek.
"Noted."
