When I open my eyes I see a roof made of twigs. Light traveling through the holes that make the room all the more brighter. I look around and see that I lay in a hammock. I also see someone asleep on the floor, their upper body moving with each breath.
I swing my legs over the side of the hammock and try to stand. I slump back into the hammock, but that makes a loud creak and the person on the ground stirs awake.
It's Newt. He stands up.
"You're not gonna go an' run off again, are ya?" He says, his voice a little groggy from his sleep.
"Do you guys have any food around here?" I ask, avoiding the question.
"Yeah, follow me." He says, taking a gentle hold over my bicep and starts out the door.
The first thing I see when I get out of the hut is a gap in the walls. Maybe I should try and escape though there?
"You know you don't need to hold me." I say, looking at his face then flicking my eyes to where his hand is touching me then back again.
"I know you're gonna run away if I don't." He states, looking over at me then staring straight ahead.
With my free arm I reach to the back of my waistband, feeling for my knife. "If you're looking for this," He pulls out the knife from his pocket. "you're not gonna get it back."
I look over to him in a frown, flicking my eyes from the knife to his face, trying to decipher his facial expression. He has an emotional defence as strong as these damned walls that surround us.
"Newt?" I start.
"Yeah, Greenbean?"
"Can you unhand me? I promise not to run off." I ask, stopping in my tracks.
"You promise?" He asks skeptically.
"I swear." I say. He takes his hand off me slowly.
"Well, was that so hard?" I ask as I start to walk with him.
"No, but I'm still keeping my eye on you." He says, I glance over at him to see he's already staring. For some reason, that gives me a weird feeling in the darkest pit in my extrmely empty stomach.
Halfway to where I assume the kitchen is at, I take off in a sprint towards the direction of the walls. I soon hear Newt's footsteps behind me and that makes me run faster. I blink and I'm met with the green of the grass. I feel the pressure of another body ontop of mine that quickly disappears.
"You know I should never trust you when you swear on something." Newt's voice says, sounding out of breath.
"I thought you would have known better." I say, my voice muffled.
I roll onto my back and squeeze my eyes shut. Why the fuck is this boy so fast for no reason whatsoever!
As I open my eyes, I see Newt leaning over me with a hand outstreched. I take hold of it and he helps me up. When I stand, Newt holds my bicep again and herds me back to the kitchens.
"You should really stop making a habit of running away." Newt says as we walk up to the counter.
"Old habits die hard." I reply, rolling my eyes.
I look around the tables and see all the boys from yesterday.
Newt lets go of my arm and Alby walks over to us.
"Sleeping Beauty is finally awake." states the one who I remember to be Minho.
"Shuck off, Minho." Alby says, causing the others to giggle.
