A few days have passed since you gave everyone their gifts and things have been going well. Jason transferred all of his drawings into the book you got him and he filled up a few pages of his sketchbook. Norman has already finished the first book in the series you got him and even spent time at breakfast discussing it with you.
Danny filled up his scrapbook and unsurprisingly most of the pictures were of you. A lot of the captions he wrote on them were funny or even sweet. You and Hannibal finished the novel you were still on before moving on to one of the ones you got him which is actually pretty good so far.
Nobody has had an activity day since then so unfortunately a few of them haven't been able to really use their gifts- though they still enjoy going through them. Brahms tells you daily how he's been mentally practicing in his head so he can play for you without looking at the music. Bubba constantly points out different crafts he'd like to do from his book, even signing to you what flowers he'd like to use for each one. Vincent even surprised you by showing you different wax figures he'd like to try recreating though it was a bit hard to understand him when he wouldn't speak.
All in all it seems like everyone has been enjoying their gifts which makes you extremely happy.
"Well I'll be damned!" Somebodies voice echoes out from behind you as you head down the hall towards your patients ward in order to accompany them to lunch. Confused, you turn around only to be met with the last person you would've expected- Chris. "Talk about a happy coincidence. I didn't know you worked here."
You give him a tight smile, unsure what to think of the situation. Looking over his outfit, you find him to be wearing a guards uniform. "Did you just start working here?"
"No." He shakes his head as he steps closer to you, stopping less than a foot away from you. "I just transferred to the day shift. I used to work midnights which is probably why we never ran into each other before."
You shift uncomfortably at his closeness but try to dismiss it as him just wanting to keep others from overhearing the both of you despite your conversation not being very serious. "What made you decide to switch over?"
You begin to make your way back down the hall, not wanting to be late to accompany the others. Chris follows after you, his arm brushing against your own as he walks next to you. "The night shift got pretty boring. All I would do was roam the halls and make sure none of the patients were wandering around. At least with the day shift I can talk to people and don't have to eat alone."
"That does sound pretty boring." You nod in agreement. A few seconds later the ward finally comes into view and your body subconsciously relaxes upon knowing that your boys are just on the other side of the door.
"Hey, would you mind if I sit with you at lunch?" Chris grabs your arm to keep you from going through the doorway.
Giving him a sheepish smile, you gently pull your arm away. "Sorry, but I usually sit with my patients."
"I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you sit with someone else for once. I mean, it's just one day right?" His own smile tightens in what seems to be annoyance.
"Maybe some other time. I already promised to sit with them today." You lie, hoping it's convincing enough to get him to leave you alone. He didn't seem all that bad when you met him at the grocery store but now he just seems really creepy.
It definitely doesn't feel like a coincidence that he randomly swapped over to day shift shortly after meeting you. It's also strange that he's worked here this entire time and yet you haven't seen him a single time. Surely he doesn't spend the entire day locked up in his room. You certainly would've seen him at least at breakfast or dinner since night shift ends right before breakfast and starts right after dinner.
