As I plummet through the air, I force my eyes open, heart pounding as I catch sight of the rapidly approaching ground. This is the end. Just as I brace myself for the inevitable impact, I bolt upright with a gasp, unintentionally striking someone in the nose with my head.
"Hey, shhh. It was just a dream," a soothing voice reassures me while rubbing my back gently.
I scramble off the couch, panic gripping my chest.
"Hayden?" I stammer, desperately searching for a familiar face.
My breathing becomes sharp and quick, my body trembles uncontrollably. Recognizing the onset of a panic attack, I quickly lower myself to the floor and hug my knees tightly against my chest, trying to take slow, deep breaths to calm down.
"That's it, you're doing great," says the comforting voice nearby, guiding me through the overwhelming emotions washing over me like waves.
After a while, I finally manage to calm down and regain my composure. As I slowly catch my breath, I turn my gaze towards Nat. Her nose is still bleeding from when I accidentally headbutted her during my panic.
"I'm really sorry, Nat," I say sheepishly, feeling guilty for hurting her.
She smiles warmly and says, "It's alright. Don't worry about it." The kindness in her eyes immediately puts me at ease.
Nat extends her hand towards me, and I grasp it firmly. With her help, I pull myself up off the cold ground. As I stand, I can't help but look down at my feet, feeling embarrassed and vulnerable.
"What was that nightmare about?" Nat asks softly, not wanting to pressure me into sharing more than I'm ready to.
I shake my head slowly as I reply, "Nothing"
Over the next few days, I gradually grow closer to the Avengers. Natasha mentions that I'll have the opportunity to meet the rest of the team soon enough, as they are currently away completing a mission. In the meantime, I continue to acclimate myself to my new surroundings and adjust to my interactions with these incredible heroes.
My brother has come to visit me on two separate occasions since my emotional outburst, which has made things a bit awkward for both of us. Despite the tension, he has proven to be quite helpful in getting me settled in and assisting me with a few tasks I needed to handle. We're slowly beginning to rebuild our relationship and navigate our way through this new phase together.
As each day passes, I find myself becoming more intrigued by the world of the Avengers and look forward to learning more about each team member and their own unique stories.
It's a sunny Saturday afternoon, and I find myself in my bedroom, standing in front of my wardrobe, trying to decide on the perfect outfit. Ever since Natasha and Yelena took me on that wild shopping spree, my collection of clothes has grown significantly. Now, I have so many options that it feels impossible to settle on just one ensemble.
I run my hands through my new clothes, feeling the soft fabrics as I weigh my options.
"Hmm," I mumble, biting my lip in contemplation. "Do I go for the classic jeans or opt for these stylish ripped ones?"
As I'm deep in thought, there's a sudden knock on my door. "Come in!" I call out without turning away from the wardrobe.
The door swings open, and Natasha strolls in with a grin on her face. "Hey there," she says with a playful tone, "Whatcha doing?"
I chuckle and gesture towards the mountain of clothes scattered across the floor, "Just trying to figure out what to wear!"
"Well, let me help you out," Nat replies with a smile.
