"Mr. Hawthorne," Dr. Gery said, and Ryder stood up as he was anxiously waiting for the doctor to come back with his scans, "Sit back down, son..." He sighed.
"N-no... if my cancer is back, I want you to tell me now," Ryder was trembling.
"Sit down okay... it isn't cancer..." Dr. Gery said, and Ryder sat down, the Doctor had known Ryder for such a long time because he had childhood leukemia, and his mother was another nurse in the hospital.
"What is it then?"
"Ryder, we've been conducting a series of tests, and unfortunately, the results point towards a kidney disease. It's something we're just starting to understand, but we must take immediate action. The severity suggests we might need to consider a kidney transplant as our best option moving forward." Dr. Gery said, "You have nothing to worry about, okay? With your insurance plan and the list of donators, I am sure we can find someone within 6 months,"
"Then I will die without it?" Ryder asked.
"Yes... it can be fatal, but like I said you have nothing to worry about. As soon as we get you out of here, I will be telling my colleagues to start testing for the most compatible donor,"
"Is there something we can do to speed it up? Like my mom or cousins?" Ryder asked.
"I will tell you what, I will do such a good job in researching that I will even see if I am compatible for donation," Dr. Gery said and Ryder raised his eyebrows, Dr. Gery had no kids of his own and he had grown attached to the young Hawthorne boy... 'Do I tell him now?' Dr. Gery asked.
"Tell me what... Tell me, Niko, please..." Ryder said, that the Dr. knew that Ryder had this supernatural ability, but he always forgot it. He forgot that Ryder could read minds, he sighed at locked the door before going over to the couch and kneeling in front of Ryder.
"Ryder... you know how I took a little extra blood these past couple of months we were trying to pinpoint what was going on with your health," Dr. Gery asked, and Ryder nodded as he had found it suspicious. "Well... I sent your blood off for a DNA test."
"You what? Are you crazy? You could get fired for that!" Ryder said and Dr. Gery sighed.
"Son, do you know anything about your mother? Or who she was before you were here?" Dr. Gery asked and Ryder raised an eyebrow, "Did you know your father had a paternity test done here back when you were 10?"
"H-He did. What was the result, it was that he was my dad... right?" Ryder asked and Dr. Gery had a gloomy look on his face.
"Ryder, I am not telling you this to stress you out, your mother is a very dangerous woman," Dr. Gery explained, Ryder looked down because he couldn't deny it either. "There was a 0% chance of your father being your father, and there was also a 50% chance of your mother being your mother,"
