They get home when the last rays of sun paint a golden hue over the sky.
Gemma's car is exactly the same as Harry's, the only difference were the two children seats arranged in the back, where Belmont and Margot could travel without a risk. Thanks to that, Louis manages to park in front of the house with no problem.
He turns off the engine after stopping the radio and takes off his seatbelt after taking the keys out of the lock. He turns around then, only to find one of the cutest scenes his eyes have ever seen.
Belmont and Margot had fallen asleep in their respective baby seats, with their legs loose and their little heads hanging. The blond boy had a plushie pressed against his face while the brunette had her hands under her cheek. Both of their features were calm and little breaths came out of their mouths, making clear the deep exhaustion they had succumbed to. They looked so calm that if Liam and Niall could see them, they wouldn't be able to resist those angelic faces.
It wouldn't be weird, the cuteness kids radiated was understandable. They could make anyone coo, but strangely enough, what made Louis all the more endeared was the fact that Harry had also fallen asleep somewhere along the way.
He had travelled in the backseat, as per usual, in between his niece and nephew. His head was hanging beside Belmont's, but he kept one of his big hands next to the little hand Margot had free. He was hugging himself with his other arm while his chest rose and fell in a constant rhythm. The frown he always kept in his face was completely relaxed, showing something other than the stern expression he made the effort to display daily. He looked so calm and peaceful that not even the sunset's golden light could disturb the tranquillity that showered his face.
The scene was so cute, Louis had to recover from it before trying to wake the Editor up.
"Mr. Styles," he says slowly, after shaking his thoughts off.
"Harry," he whispers, but neither of the three of them moves, "Hey," Louis tries again, pocking the curly man's knee with his index finger.
"Harry, we're here."He doesn't get anything.
"Harreh," Louis tries again, "Hey, Harry, Harry... Harry!"
Harry was startled by the last call of his name, his hand flying to his chest. His well opened eyes flitted everywhere before resting on Louis, looking los and disorientated.
"What?" He exclaims, almost scared.
"Uhm..." Louis shrinks in himself, ashamed of causing that reaction. "We've arrived."
He looked around, recognition filling him slowly.
"Oh.""I'm sorry. You fell asleep and I didn't know if..."
"No," Harry lowers his gaze, "I wasn't asleep, I..." he coughs, rubbing at his eye, "I was resting my eyes."
He says it in such a scolding tone that Louis has to bite down a smile.
"Sure," he murmurs, "Do you want... Do you want me to help you with the kids?"
Harry looks at his sides, just now realising his hice and nephew were there. He nodded, his face softening again.
"Take Belmont," he asks with a rasp in his voice.
"I'll take Margot."After giving him an affirmation, Louis gets out of the car to open the door on Belmont's side. He unbuckles his seatbelt, struggling a little to lift his small body carefully. The boy's arms went around his neck immediately, still unconscious.
He closes the door and meets Harry on the other side, who's waiting for him with the girl already in his arms.
They cross the garden in silence until they reach the entrance, Louis a step behind the older man. They stop at the porch for a moment so Harry can look for the keys. He lets out a little victorious exclamation when he finds them, but they fall to the ground as soon as they're out of his pocket. Louis hides a laugh in Belmont's shoulders again when he hears him curse under his breath.
