For most of Billy's life, he was treated like a burden by his father. His mother loved him dearly and did everything she could to make him feel as such. Growing up, he witnessed the abuse she endured by the man she loved. For whatever reason, young Billy still loved his father despite the beatings he would receive for any reason his father could find.
As the years went on, Billy began to resent the man. He started acting out, fighting with the other boys at school and picking on the girls. This was certainly a learned behavior.
The more trouble he would get into at school, the worse it would get for him at home.
When Billy's mother passed, his father was quick to marry again. Now Billy had a new mother and a stepsister he never wanted.
Susan and Maxine are nice enough, but they're not his real mom and sister. The hatred he's developed for his father is aimed at all of them. He can't help it. His father met a new woman and married her as if his late wife had never existed. He didn't bother talking to Billy before he added to their family.

The four of them now live in a big beautiful house in Hawkins. A big change from their lives in California.
A new state, new town, and a new school to rule over.Every day, Billy drives Max to school, hating every second with her. Oh, how he wishes he could just be rid of her. On the plus side, he's got a huge following of pretty girls just dying to have him look their way.
The past few weeks have been good enough to Billy. He's had a date with a different girl almost every night. What could possibly be better than showing up Steve Harrington? The two have a relatively unhealthy rivalry about who the king of the school is. Steve just can't admit that Billy is better than him at damn near everything.

"Son, we need to have a family meeting. Get your ass in the living room!" Neil shouts as Billy and Max get in from school. "This concerns you too, Maxine."
The two teens look at each other, disgusted by the other's presence. Neither of them want to be stuck in the same space together longer than necessary, but they walk into the living room and sit anyway.
"What's this about? I have a date I need to get ready for." Billy asks, folding his arms over his chest in annoyance.
"Yeah, and I have homework." Max says, almost mimicking Billy's posture. Despite their hatred of each other, his attitude has been rubbing off on her.
"Susan and I talked about this earlier today. As much as I don't like the idea of having three teenagers in this house -"
"What are you talking about 'three teenagers' for?" Billy angrily cuts Neil off.
"Billy, your sister is going to come live with us from now on." Susan tells him as sweetly and calmly as she can.
"There's another one?" Max interrupts.
"What the fuck are you talking about? I don't have a sister!" Billy shouts, angry and confused.
"Your aunt called earlier this morning. She's not doing well and can't take care of her anymore." Susan starts to explain.
"What are you talking about? Are you trying to tell me that Willow is my sister?" Billy can't believe what he's hearing.
"Yes. Your mother got pregnant again right after you were born, and we just didn't want to deal with two babies, so your aunt took her and raised her." Neil tells him, matter of factually.
