✦ chapter one — moonfyre !interlude.
HE WAS SAID TO BE THE BLACK DREAD reborn. With large wings that casted a shadow to cover King's Landing whole and ebony stained scales, Moonfyre is a deadly beast. And a mere boy cannot control a dragon.
With teeth that cut deeper and cleaner than Valyrian steel, Moonfyre had bit into Lord Edwin Hightower's left arm. This left a deep wound that would never heal, no matter how many years would pass by. At least, that's what the Lord Hightower told everyone.
The wound was from a sword, for Moonfyre would have swallowed the man whole had he the chance. A blind man could sense just how dangerous this beast was. Yet, it did not strike because for once, he obeyed Aerion's command.
"You're nothing but a bastard. Mercy was given to your wretched mother when she died. Such a waste," The Hightower spat to his adoptive son.
Still, Aerion held no hatred for him — not yet. He was a child with no mother and no real father. He did not care if the Lord Edwin Hightower mistreated him and slandered his name like he was the spawn of evil, he's the closest thing he had to a father then.
aerion.
THE WATER DROPLETS DRIPPED DOWN the stained glass windows, the thunder illuminated the dimly lit room. The fire roaring in the fireplace.
"Please, don't take Moonfyre away!" Tears streamed down Aerion's pale cheeks, his arms clutching his grandsire's arm with a tight grip. "He won't do it again, he's good!"
King Viserys said nothing, only staring down at the boy of six-years. If he were to say words that were of comfort, he would be showing favoritism.
Aerion's voice sounded horribly small when he spoke, trembling, "Don't do this."
"I knew it was too dangerous for a boy to have possession of a beast that large," Alicent muttered, her eyes still puffy and red from her tears. "My brother will bear those scars for the rest of his life! I don't want him near the children."
"Moonfyre —"
"Not the beast," She looked straight at Aerion. He could only stare down at the floor shamefully. "I don't want him near the children."
Viserys gave her a hawk-eyed glare. "It was not his fault."
"He's a menace, with or without that beast. If he continues to have control over it, he will burn everything and everyone," Alicent said. Her stomach churns at just the mere sight of the boy. She hates him.
"Aerion—"
King Visery's was cut off by his grandson's weeping. He choked on his sobs, begging for the forgiveness of the large dragon. His small hands clutching and gripping onto the robes of his grandsire.
The doors were opened with rush, guards stepping in. The firm nod the commander gave was enough to make the Queen crack a faint smile.
"The beast is ready to be transported, your grace."
