Chapter 4

Christmas holidays are here and Sarah's roommate, Lily is packing her stuff to go to her parent's house. Her parents live in a different city. Sarah decided not to go to her parent's house this time as they live in a different country.

Twenty-two years old Sarah came to Australia to pursue her dream of becoming an engineer. Sarah also works in a restaurant as a waitress to pay her utility bills and academic fees. Sarah and Jeremy met at the same restaurant.

It's Christmas Eve and Sarah is sitting by the window of her room thinking about Jeremy.
"I wish I could say yes to you, Jeremy. I wonder what you are doing right now."

She finally decides to break the silence between her and Jeremy and text him,

"Sarah: where are you?"
"Jeremy: Outside your house."

Sarah's heart skips a beat and she quickly gets up and opens the door to let Jeremy in. When he comes inside Sarah asks him,
"What were you doing outside my house and why didn't you tell me?"
His condition looks pretty bad so she asks him,
"Are you ok? Did you drink again?"
"I just arrived here when I received your message," he replies.
"Why did you come here?" she asks him with curiosity.
"Because I wanted to tell you something," he says while making eye contact with her.
"What is it?" she asks while looking straight into his eyes.

She could smell the reek of alcohol on his breath. Before he says anything else she asks him again,
"Did you drink, Jeremy?"
He ignores her question again and takes one of her hand in his,
"Why don't you understand huh? I love you, please give me a chance and I promise I will never disappoint you," he says while breaking up.

His response shocks Sarah and she breaks eye contact while slowly taking her hands back.

" Jeremy, why are you trying to ruin our friendship? I already told you that I'm not interested in relationships I don't have the time and energy to love anyone again I can't do that please try to understand," she says while crying.

He looks at her again but this time with a serious look and says,
"I'm gonna ask you one last time and if you say no I promise I will never come back or disturb you again."

His response breaks Sarah's heart but she remains steady.

"Will you be my girlfriend?" he asks again with little hope in his voice.
She takes a pause before replying.
"No," she replies while looking straight into his eyes.

Her response breaks Jeremy's heart and he looks down for a while before saying anything.

"It was nice knowing you. I hope you live happily in your life." he says.
"You too," she says while forcing a smile on her face.

He gets up and leaves her place without looking at her.She curls up in a corner and starts sobbing.
