Night had fallen over Mystic Valley and a certain pink hedgehog smiled as the cool gust softly blew against her cheek. Her body ached after the long and difficult trek at the Ruins today, but she didn't mind.
The Ruins were where she could explore the secrets of the Ancients to her heart's content. Her friends didn't really care for historical places as much as she did, except for Tails. But lately, he was too busy with upgrading his tech and she didn't want to impose her interests on him.
Besides, she'd grown to enjoy the solitude and peace that came with having an adventure by herself.
And what a find she'd discovered today; a collection of old runes that even the 'Miles Electric' couldn't translate. So, Amy had carefully packed the heavy runes into her backpack and hiked down the dangerous remains of a past civilization.
She winced as she trudged through the wet, murky forest. She'd hurt her knee when a misstep went horribly wrong. Perhaps some company would have been a good idea, she thought, gritting her teeth through the pain.
After what seemed hours, she reached a road amidst the thicket. Perfect. Now to follow it to Station Square.
A low whirring of an engine rose from the distance. Amy looked over her shoulder, squinting in the distance. Maybe she could hitch a ride to town.
Suddenly, a sleek black convertible whooshed into view, skidding to a halt beside her.
"Well, you look dreadful," Shadow smirked, from the driver's seat.
"Oh wow, and aren't you the charmer," she said, blushing deeply as she rolled her eyes at him, walking away. The car moved slowly alongside her.
"Rose. ROSE!"
She ignored him, trying to avoid limping as much as she could. As embarrassed as she was to have him see her looking a mess, she was determined not to get his sympathy.
He sprang out of the car and was standing before her in a flash, preventing her from going any further. Arms crossed, he narrowed his eyes and scrutinized the tardiness before him.
"Shadow, can you please move? I need to get back home." She looked away; the close proximity of them making her feel. Strange.
"Rose," he said gently, "You're hurt. Let me help you get home."
"Wha- Shadow, I'm fine. I just need to.." She tried to walk past him, but he stuck his hand out.
"Please, Rose. Perhaps.. as a means of debt repayment," His eyes gleamed.
She frowned. "What are you talking about? I'm not in debted to you, Shadow."
"Well, if you recall, I did stop the destruction of the world for you." He grinned,
"Oh.. Oh! Grr.. Fine.. Just to the nearest town then."
"Allow me," He held door of passenger side open for her, but she ignored it, sliding into the back seat. He bit back a laugh. He hopped in and magnificent beast sprang to life once more and zoomed away from the damp gloom of the dark forest.
"If I may, Rose, what brings you so far from home?" he asked presently as they zoomed past the trees and vegetation.
"Um.. Its not that far." She mumbled, "I live in Station Square now."
"Hmm.. I'm headed there myself. I could drop you off home."
".. Okay.. Its a little pink house on Ashwood Street. Number 12."
"Right."
Amy soon found herself enjoying the comfortable seats and soft music. Accompanied by the cool breeze that gently whipped across her face as the convertible sped out of the wood, made her eyes heavy with sleep. Within a while, she was fast asleep.
Shadow caught sight of the sleeping pink hedgehog on his rear view mirror and smiled to himself, taking extra care to drive as smoothly as possible. Soon enough he pulled over infront of a dainty pink house. He exited the car and frowned looking at the sleeping girl, reluctant to wake her up from her peaceful slumber.
He picked her up gently and whispered "Chaos control" as softly as he could, teleporting instantly to her bedroom. Shadow set her on her bed and scowled at her injured knee. It looked pretty bad. He walked down the stairs to the kitchen in search of a first aid kit. The house, he observed, was.. Different to what he expected. Gone were the many pink fluffy trinkets and many pictures of that dreadful blue hedgehog that had decorated her house back in Green Hill.
Paintings of various landscape and a couple of framed photographs of her group of friends donned the living room walls.
Hmm.. She trekked a dangerous terrain alone, had moved away from Green Hill where that awful speedster lived and she didn't call for help when she'd hurt herself. He'd spotted the "Miles Electric" in the backseat; she could have easily called Tails for help. Yet, she was determined to struggle alone.
Shadow quickly found the first aid kit in the kitchen and hurried back up. First, he removed her muddy shoes and kept them aside. He then dabbed a disinfectant on the wound that peaked through the ripped pants and rolled a bandage around it. He stepped back and looked at the beautiful, sleeping girl.
She would never see him as an option, he knew. And yet, the absence of blue blur obsession in her house gave him a tiny spark of hope.
"Goodnight, Amy."

Amy stifled a yawn, as she woke up safe in her own bed the next morning. Blinking away the sleep, she looked around. Yes, she was home. She was sore all over and her knee.. Her knee was all bandaged up. Her shoes were placed neatly on a side and her bag propped up in a corner. She couldn't recall getting home.
Wait.. Shadow.. Shadow had been driving her home. She blushed, wondering if he truly had been considerate enough to do all this.
She spied a folded paper on her backpack. A phone number was written on it followed by a note that read "If you ever need a ride back home. Shadow."
