Bates High School.

It'd been a long while since (Y/n) had seen it. The young man had been in 7th grade when he left to visit his uncle after his grandmother had a heart attack, but he never returned, instead having to care for both, while his half-sister got to stay in Maine with their father, who in all honesty never spared (Y/n) a glance. It was fair, he supposed. He wasn't meant to have been born considering his mother was an ex-employee of his father's law firm and the only reason his father had any custody of him was due to his mother's mental illness. At least he had his uncle, though with the passing of his grandmother, (Y/n)'s uncle fell into a depression which meant he couldn't be a suitable guardian for him anymore. So, with his uncle in a home and (Y/n) back into the salty air of Maine, he stood at the entry gate, dread seeping through his veins at having to find a new normal in this school.

With a slight shrug to himself, (Y/n) began his trek with the other students around him into the school. His stepmother was nice enough to already sign him up for school so all he had to do was pick up a schedule, and maybe find his sister, Chris. He didn't mind Chris of the time as they usually made it a point to stay out of each other's way, however, she had a trend of taking her jokes way too far. Sometimes he thought she might've been a sadist and enjoyed making people's lives miserable, but who was he to say when he'd been gone for years? She also could've just been a mean kid.

Entering the school, (Y/n) headed for the main office where he could get his schedule and the rules rundown. They were typically, basically, decent human beings, which from the looks most people were giving him, was not what was to be expected here. Most people were either talking about the parties they'd been to, who they were seeing, or about some girl named Carrie.

"She totally got her period in the gym the other day." One girl whispered, she wore a blue sweater and from the looks of the mess on it, either made pancakes or was up to some devious things before 8 in the morning.

"Oh my god, that's disgusting, what happened?" The other, whose hair looked hard with hairspray and lipstick smeared in the corner of her mouth.

"All the girls threw pads and tampons at her," hopefully pancake girl laughed. "She cried, but at least she got free stuff, right?"

"Totally! I swear if I got free tampons I'd celebrate, but that disgusting bitch gets them and cries? Hah! How embarrassing."

Oh yeah, this school was a far cry from the quieter schools he was used to. There was drama and bullying sure, but this was straight cruel. (Y/n) tried to focus on his math lecture, but he found it difficult with everyone making fun of this Carrie girl. From notes to actual impersonations of her, (Y/n) expected someone who looked like an actual toad and sounded like a smoker of 10 years, which couldn't possibly be right. Were people in this town so bored that they couldn't just be, you know, nice?

Getting through classes was a struggle with the non-stop chatter that none of the teachers seemed to care about. How could anyone learn like this?

Just as his brain was melting, the lunch bell rang, and (Y/n) rushed out of his class, desperate to escape the gossip. It was almost like a movie with how bad people treated each other and again,  Carrie's name seemed to be everywhere. With a roll of his eyes, he opened his locker, the whispering of Carrie's name seeming to be growing louder and louder.
