Wind flurried around (Y/n)'s face, causing their hair to fly around as the world passed by at 95 MPH along the abandoned dirt road. Their father had always been somewhat of an impatient man, which he carried with him in every single part of his life, from his work to home, even his own child. Oftentimes, (Y/n) could expect that they would be getting a scolding, or talked to about something they did wrong, like if there's a single dish in the sink or a spec of dust on his TV. Even now he was upset at the fact that they were going to be 5 minutes late to their meeting with his friend's family because they had to use the restroom in Fort Worth nearly 3 hours ago.

The saving grace for them would be seeing their old friend Bubba again, though his great-grandmother and mom being placed around the house could get creepy when spending the night, Bubba made everything worth it. He was the only one who could really understand what being withdrawn was like as he didn't speak much, if at all. With Bubba, (Y/n) felt safe, even if he and his family were cannibals, what better protector than someone who killed for a living? Though they would never tell him that every time they were near him, their stomach would go in knots, or even a small show of his kindness made their heart flutter.

"Now," (Y/n)'s father's voice snapped them back to attention. Turning their head to face him, they noticed they were only a few more stops away from the country road the Sawyers' house was on. "When we get there you need to be good and polite. I don't want any of your hiding away business."

"Yes sir," (Y/n) muttered.

"Or that damn muttering. I don't give a damn about that social... social impiety or whatever it is that you have."

"Social anxiety?"

"Don't you get smart with me," his voice raised, violence etched his tongue, and sent a pang of fear through (Y/n)'s chest. "Now you behave yourself, I will not have you embarrass me in front of my friends."

"Yes sir," They said, clearly this time as to avoid their father's criticism again. They scrunched into the corner for the rest of the ride, though the bumps made it difficult for them to stay that way. When they finally were able to see the house, they allowed themselves to uncurl and sit up straight, anticipation wearing heavy on their stomach at seeing the family and especially Bubba.

Their father honked the horn, letting the family know they had arrived before they were even parked. Not even a few seconds later, their father's best friend, Drayton Sawyer comes barreling out of the door, shouting a bunch of 'who let this son of a bitch on our property," with a huge smile on his face. (Y/n) slowly got out of the car, grabbing their backpack from the back, as well as their father's duffle bag. They made their way over to where Drayton and their dad were catching up and offered a handout to the eldest Sawyer sibling.

"Hello again, sir, it's nice to-" They were cut off by getting a giant hug from the man, crushing and uncomfortable. "See you." They finally choked out, their father giving them a nasty look.

"For god's sake, (Y/n) the Sawyers are family, we don't shake hands with family."

"You've grown quite a bit, how old are ya now?" Drayton finally allowed (Y/n) to breathe, still holding onto their shoulders, he looked them up and down, sending their skin crawling. His stare itself was creepy, though they knew he would never do anything to hurt them... well, as long as Bubba and their father were around.
