When Hazel landed in San Juan, she grabbed her overnight bag and followed the signs for Ground Transport so she could grab a taxi. As she walked, she shot a quick text to Karano, who replied to her moments later with a picture of her and Eliza flying along in the airboat with a tour group. Hazel couldn't help but grin at Eliza's wide eyed joy, as she looked like she was having a blast. She had an inkling that she'd be running her own tour boat when she got older, assuming she didn't head off to college and do something even bigger!

The ground transportation area was a madhouse, with people having deplaned and ready to get out into the city. Hazel wasn't in a hurry, having little doubt that the emergency that was here was going to be something silly and easy to solve. It also wouldn't have been unlike her mother to pretend to have an emergency just to get a visit from her daughter. When at last it was her turn to get into the cab, she slipped into the back seat and gave the driver the address to her mom's house.

It was always nice to come back home, and she wished that it was easier for her and Karano to afford it. The pack wasn't exactly wealthy, though they did well enough to feed everyone and there were thankfully few illnesses among the supernatural community that would cause people to miss work or pay big medical bills. But there was still maintenance on their cabins, and then spare parts for the boats, repairs for the cars used for the Uber drivers along with clothes and the rest. It just seemed like there was always something.

As a rule, most werewolf packs weren't wealthy, preferring to live in remote locations where jobs weren't as high paying. Even the vampire coven that she was still technically a member of wasn't as well off as some of those in big cities. Vampires had centuries to accumulate wealth and invest in businesses, but the ones in Puerto Rico also helped to rebuild after hurricanes and keep the populace healthy. Sure, they also fed on a lot of drunk tourists, which really made the hangovers worse, but they never killed any. Well, José may have, she wouldn't put it past him.

But wealth wasn't their strong point.

With all that said, the women were lucky to visit once a year, always staying with Hazel's mom, since Karano and her mom had a very bad relationship. Her mom had tried to split them up from the beginning, not at all agreeing with their relationship and preferring that Karano go back to her ex, a scummy asshole named Angel. Hazel and her mom didn't have a perfect relationship either, but at least they were working on it, and they kept trying to do better. Neither parent knew about the supernatural worlds that their daughters had become a part of, and they meant to keep it that way.

That would probably be harder to explain than coming out had been!

The taxi let her out at her mom's little house. It wasn't anything special, to the eye anyway, but Hazel had a lot of wonderful memories from growing up in the little light blue bungalow. After paying the driver, she walked slowly up the walkway, looking around the neighborhood. Not much had changed in the years since she'd moved away with Karano, and yet it was still all so foreign just the same. The houses up and down the little road looked the same, and she was sure all the same neighbors still lived there too. Maybe there would be little changes that she couldn't see, there were too many interesting personalities here in the area for there to have not been weird things happening, but it still felt like her old home. She quickly texted Karano, letting her know what was going on and then stuck her phone back in her pocket.

When she reached the front door, she could hear a faint whispering in the back of her head. She knew what it was and smiled in response. Day by day that whispering had become louder, and she hoped that soon she'd be able to understand it and reply in kind. She couldn't wait to meet her wolf and knew that she would in just a couple of days.
