February 20th

The sun shines brightly as the students of Dragonite University go about their day. One girl in particular is running down the halls as quickly as possible. Her name is Jessica Nicolete and she's about to be late for her British literature class.
"Por qúe? I knew I shouldn't have decided to order such a big meal! Ay dios mío. Now I'm late!"
As Jessica rounded a corner she ran into another student. Both fell to the ground causing their books and papers to fall around them. A few other students noticed the situation and came to Jessica and the other students aid.
"Thank you," Jessica replied softly. Hesitantly, Jessica peered up at the student whom she'd so reckless collided with.
"Kalen?"
"Oh! Hey Jess, sorry about that."
"No, no, it's my fault. Are you alright?"
"I'm fine Jess, but you seem stressed. Everything ok?"
"Oh my gosh! I'm late for class! I have to go. Again, I'm sorry Kalen!" Jessica rambled as she finished collecting her things. Before Kalen could utter another word, Jessica had already fled the scene.

March 15th

Kalen was on his way to soccer practice. His coach also said he wanted to talk to him about the upcoming game. As Kalen walked out the doors towards the field, a body collided with him.
"Jess?" He peered down to the see the small girl on the ground.
"Hello Kalen. Funny bumping into you today."
"I'd say so. You ok?" He offered his hand to her.
"Thank you." She stuttered with a blush. Kalen always found her adorable when her cheeks were slightly dusted pink. But then again, in his eyes, she was just an adorable girl overall.
"I hate to cut this short but I'd better go to practice."
"Of course! Have fun with your recreational activity."

April 25th

It had been an eventful week. Jessica and Kalen had to stop a combined 7 super villains while also preparing for midterms. It was a nightmare. The two decided to take a snack break in the university's cafeteria.
A quick cup of vanilla cappuccino would do the trick. Jessica made her cup and proceeded to sit at the farthest corner of the room. Kalen walked in twenty minutes later after a grueling lecture from his coach about not giving 110%. When Kalen noticed Jessica in a stressed mood he figured he'd try to help. But Jessica got up right as he reached her table. They collided and cappuccino went everywhere. It was just another sour note to add to their already bitter week.
"I'm so sorry!"
"It's...ok. It'll wash out. Now, if you'll excuse me I must go change."

September 5th

The university was having its annual charity festival. Two groups of friends were running around, playing the various games and eating from the large amount of food stands.
"I must excuse myself, I need to visit the restroom."
"Ok Jess, we'll be at the bouncy houses. The twins and Ezira want to take a crack at them."
"Of course. I shall see you soon Tiffany."

"Hey guys, I gotta hit the loo. I'll be right back."
"Ok bro, meet us by the hot dog stand!"
"Will do!"

***

"Hmm, I haven't seen the boys all night. I do hope they haven't left yet."
Jessica and Kalen did not bump into each other that night. It was more as if they'd just missed each other while in search of a bathroom.

November 18th

It nearly time for thanksgiving break. However, right before the end of classes, a herd of villains decided to make an appearance. The two practically ran into each other while searching for a place to hide and transform.
"Hello Kalen. What a pleasant surprise!"
"Yeah, same here. Heh."
Neither one knew what to say and they were running low on time, so they simply waved awkwardly and continued on their hunt for a hiding place. It took 2 hours to finally stop the villain mob. Unfortunately, both had also missed their afternoon classes so they decided to head back to their dorms and rest.

December 16th

It was the end of the semester and students were packing up to go home. While many would be coming back, others were graduating.
Jessica was in her room packing away her suitcase. Her roommate, Angela, had left a day earlier. Meanwhile, Kalen was finishing packing up his car for his trip home later that day.
The two decided to take a break and head down to the water gardens that were by the library. They bumped into each other near the garden entrance but unlike the other times, neither one was in a hurry to be somewhere.
"Oh, hello Kalen. How are you today?"
"I'm fine. Thought I'd stop by here before I leave."
"Are you departing today?"
"Yep. How about you?"
"It will be tomorrow most likely. I intend to stay at Ezira's this evening."
"Cool."
There was an awkward pause. Jessica stole a quick glance at Kalen and vise versa.
"Would you like to sit?" Kalen asked.
"Yes, thank you." The two moved further into the gardens and found a bench to sit on. The silence returned. A few other students could be heard chatting as they walked by the garden. Kalen cleared his throat and attempted to be flirtatious.
"So, what's the plan for holiday break? Someone as sweet and organized as you has got to have a schedule already planned out. Maybe you plan to visit somebody special?"
"Thank you for the compliment but no, not that I can think of. Most of my family still lives at home. Except for grandma, grandpa and my cousin. But they promise to FaceTime."
"Oh." Kalen could feel his heart tear a little. Jessica, meanwhile, had taken notice of his attempt at flirting and she was doing her best to stay composed. He flirted with me. He flirted with me! But, I have to remain calm. Flirting does not mean he likes me.
"Jess?" Jessica quickly turned her head towards her companion. "Is everything ok?"
"Of course! I merely got lost in thought, my apologies."
"Oh no, it's ok. I think it's kinda cute."
Immediately, Jessica's face turned a bright shade of red. In all her life, a boy whom she liked had never said she was cute.
"Why, thank you."
The two awkwardly chuckled and decided to take in the silence. After a little while longer, they decided to leave as they both still needed to complete their packing.
"I'll see you when you get back."
"Of course."
As Jessica was about to head to the exit, Kalen called her back. "Hey! Do you think we could get a coffee at the cafe when we get back from break?"
Jessica smiled and nodded. "I'd love to."

Although the semester had been a bit rough, the two were always glad when they accidentally bumped into each other.

Thank you for reading this one-shot. I'm really excited to move forward in the development of my series Superheroes! (U.S TD). I absolutely love Jessica and Kalen's dynamic. They're relationship is based on two close friends from high school. I cannot wait to write more stories about them and the rest of the cast. Stay amazing and see you next chapter! Bye!
