Three years later
It has been three years since I've seen my brother. In America they don't send letters using owls like they do in Scotland, so I've had to find other ways to send them to my brother.
I have tried using the post office but they didn't know where Hogwarts was and thought I was playing a prank on them. I have tried emailing him, but it seems they don't have computers there.
I'm not allowed to leave the United States to go and visit him either so we haven't spoken with each other since our eleventh birthday when we were taken to Diagonally for the first time.
My second year of school was coming to an end with only a few weeks left when I got a letter. This was strange because I rarely got letters, but the weirdest part was that the return address was Hogwarts.
I quickly opened up the envelope to see it was from Professor Dumbledore. The letter read:
Dear Ms. Potter,
I regret to inform you that for your third year of schooling, you will attend Hogwarts School; Of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The family that you have been living with has already been informed and will escort you to the airport where you will catch a flight to London, England.
Sincerely,
Headmaster Dumbledore.
Was I really about to see Harry? I read the letter about five more times. I could really be leaving could I? How was I going to tell my friends? Would I ever see them again?
I ran to the great hall of my school, luckily most of my friends were already there eating lunch.
"Guys! Guys! Guess what!" I yelled as I ran up to them. This caused other students to stare at us but what did I care? I didn't even know them.
"What is it, Maddie? My friend Astoria asked. She had beautiful long curls that were a sort of platinum blonde. She was also the girl who I had lived with for the two years I had been here
"I'm going to finally see Harry again!" Astoria jumped out of her seat in excitement but my other friends looked confused.
"Who's Harry?" One of my friends asked. "My brother!" I said sitting down across from them.
"Since when do you have a brother?" Me and Astoria just looked at each other. She was the only other person who knew about him and our situation. Other than our headmaster.
"Umm... so you all know who Harry Potter is right?" I asked. "You mean the only person to survive the killing curse and the most famous wizard alive?" My friend asked in a sarcastic tone.
"Yeah, we'll anyway. That's my Brother. My real name is Maddie Potter." Other than Astoria they all just looked at me with all different expressions.
One was completely taken aback, another confused, and one was suspicious about what I had said. "Ok yeah sure, you're Maddie Potter," she said sarcastically.
"Ok, ok. I know you guys don't believe me but I promise. But I do have something else to tell you guys."
They all stared, waiting for me to say something.
"I won't be attending this school next year," I said looking down and playing with the food on my plate.
"What! Why?" One of them said, "I'm being transferred to Hogwarts."
They all went silent. So did I. This is when it really hit me. I was probably never going to see any of them again. All of the people who welcomed me as their own, who taught me what magic was and all about the Wizarding world. I'm going to miss them.
As we all sat in silence a large hand was placed on my shoulder making me jump. I turned my head to see who it was. It was our headmaster.
"Ms. Winslow, can I have a word?" He said. I nodded and gave my friends an apologetic look. I followed him out of the great hall out to one of the many corridors of the school.
