As Jodha rode on Laila, swiftly cutting through the winds like a sword through paper, the woods of Amer Hill blurred past her in shades of vibrant green. Ajabde tightened her grip around her husband's waist as they accelerated. Accompanied by the soldiers Raja Bharmal had ordered to join them, they galloped through the Amer woods.
Jodha had ridden many horses before, but Laila was different. Riding Laila felt like being on a bullet train-fast, yet smooth. Laila's majestic grace and divine appearance glistened like a pearl under the sun, while Jodha, dressed in her red and white saree, emanated the aura of a warrior goddess atop a celestial horse descended from the heavens. The fabric of Jodha's saree billowed in the wind, perfectly matching Laila's majestic presence.
Perched atop a hill, the Amer Palace overlooked the entire kingdom. With an abundance of concrete, stone, and construction materials, the huts in which the citizens of her kingdom lived were inadequate for their well-being and hindered the growth of the kingdom. Jodha recognized that the primary focus should be on the welfare of her citizens. By providing employment opportunities and upgrading their living conditions, both the people and the kingdom would flourish.
Hence, Jodha decided to build cottages or better houses for two classes of people: the lower class and the middle class. The lower class occupants would receive their houses as part of their work and wouldn't need to pay rent. Recognizing the desire of women to contribute to Amer's economy and support their families, Jodha ensured employment opportunities for both men and women. Men worked in food, carriage, and military factories, while women found employment in garment and textile factories. As for the middle class, they paid a fair monthly rent of three silver coins, receiving essential amenities such as water, citizenship, ration, and job security.
Guided by the soldiers, Jodha, Ajabde, and Pratap approached Nahargarh village, which was situated near Amer's border, 2 kos (3km) away from Amer's palace, facing east. It overlooked the Nahargarh Fort, which Jodha and Nalanda's brilliant engineers had built. The trio had worked tirelessly to strengthen the alliance between Mewar, Amer, and Bhanpur. They decided to construct three forts in the east, west, and north directions, with an entrance in the south accompanied by watchtowers. The Aravali hills and the forts would provide the best defense for the kingdom.
