How does one sense potential danger out in the open?
Wild animals have their own ways of knowing when a potential predator is in the same area as them. Like for example, a snake flicks their tongue to inspect what is around them from the air to the organ in their mouths.
They can sense infrared radiation, and if the creature is small like a rodent, it's prey. But if it's big like a four-legged animal or a person at that, then it's predator to them. Deer can pretty much not only smell out an unwanted spectator, but also use their sight and hearing. The same way works similar like wolves or such.
And most of the time, they scurried off. But there are apex predators that will instead be curious upon their new findings that doesn't belong out there. And usually, they can get too curious to the point things can escalate very quickly. Too quickly that it results a flight or fight mode.
Some chose flight, which is running off to safety.
And some others, depending on the creature... chose fight. Expect to hear the wails of agony, along with blood being drawn and bones possibly getting broken. It's not always the animals' fault; it's usually the recklessness and the ignorance of one for not respecting boundaries.
So why is this being mentioned, you might ask?
It's because...
Yelena noticed something off ever since she is adjusting one change in her second chance at life. Aside with the daily visits from them, there is this feeling in her gut that she is being monitored by somewhere. Her sensitive nose tells her that they are not the only ones within the deepest part of the woods.
Truthfully, it has her alert. This only occurs after her lovers left to head back to the Demon Realm. It's almost like whoever or whatever is watching her is being cautious about the fact Meliodas and Zeldris are there. That's honestly a wise thing, not wanting to entangle with the two who are powerful in their own right among the Demon Clan.
And of course being the sons of the Demon King.
It had her thinking if it was some humans posing as hunters. But the scent she was getting doesn't exactly smell humane. So it was obvious that it means there's some nonhumans around. And she isn't sure whether this is a bad thing or something she can just ignore with a belief they're just passing by.
But nope, it isn't.
Day by day, whenever they left or when they couldn't come over, the feeling of being watched and the new yet unfamiliar scent are still there. Yelena is pretty surprised at herself that she wasn't letting it shown that something is bothering her to the demon princes. Surely, having the biting mark, they would get the feeling right away would they?
Did Yelena achieve some kind of poker face or something?
Either way, Yelena had enough of being watched. They could just be watching her to see if she's a threat or not. But what if someone sent out an assassination attempt to her?
She thought about confronting them right away, but where is the fun in that?
She can just make it appear that she is oblivious. And when they think they've got her when her guard is dropped, it'll be them who got caught into the trap she purposely laid out to them.
'Hmm... but this scent...' Yelena thought to herself, while staring up at the red-orange skies of the late afternoon. She can faintly hear the caws of the crows, no doubt flying through the air to look for a resting spot.
If this scent matches what she think it is...
Then this could be trouble.
