'Hate. They say to never let it consume your being. It clings to your soul like sticky, black tar; it burns through your skins straight to the bone. It's a disgusting emotion that infects the mind and body alike. It can morph you into an empty husk of the person you once were. Push people to do things that under all reasonable circumstances would never happen.'
Linterna sits by her godson's bedside clasping his hand tightly. She wouldn't let him die. Not by his father's own hands. She had aided the doctor to stitch Lunan's abdomen back together. She watched Lunan restlessly day and night to make sure his condition didn't worsen.
King Eclius had been back for a little more than a month and seemed to be doing well. But, one day he was watching young Lunan train his swordsmanship in the courtyard. What was supposed to be a friendly sparring match quickly turned into a trial of worth. A trial to see whether or not the defected son was worth keeping around. Eclius slashed the 15-year-old prince in the stomach deeply. Had Linterna not been as tuned to hearing the cry of pain coming from the courtyard it isn't likely Lunan would've survived much longer.
"ECLIUS, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?! HAVE YOU GONE INSANE? HE'S YOUR SON SO WHAT IF HE DOESN'T HAVE RAYS? HE'S STILL A HEALTHY YOUNG MAN. HE HAS DONE NOTHING WRONG. YOU BASTARD," Linterna scooped up the limp Lunan into her arms, her dress getting stained from her god son's blood. She loved Lunan like her very own child. She would die before she allowed this kid to pass away young. "I hope you're happy with yourself, Eclius," she gave him an icy glare. Her dislike for the king grew ten folds.
In those moments, Linterna was filled with a lovely hate for Eclius. But she knew it would soon turn into a hateful love. She cannot truly hate someone other than the very man who brought her into this world.
"Ma...?"
"Lune?" She snapped out of her trance and realized that Lunan had woken up after a couple of days. She trembled tears of joy rolling down her cheeks. She cupped her godson's cheeks with her hands and kissed his forehead. "You're alright!"
