Dark room. Confined. No escape.
Screams echoing through the chambers. Cries for help.
The feeling of helplessness settling in. The regret.
"You're shaking." Fuji brought Rain out of the horrid flashes her brain was showing her. Her brain making up various situations, making it worse for her.
All the scenarios showed her the state Pennhung must have been living under.
Not one of them being pleasant at all.
Fuji and White were sitting on the girls bed, trying to get her to stop shaking or help her through the panic attack, but nothing seemed to be working.
They didn't know how to help her.
Because Pennhung was the only one knew how to. And he wasn't here, and Rain blamed herself for not protecting her brother.
Every inconvenience, little or big that happened in their lives, Rain found ways to blame herself. She indeed wanted to live up to the self given title of being the Disappointment of the family.
She was yet again, blaming herself.
She had to figure out a way to prove her brother's innocence. If Pennhung said the duck was not his, then it wasn't his.
Someone as attentive as him could never not notice the sick health of his duckling.
Pennhung never lies. He is the most truthful person Rain had ever met. He was the kind of person who would own up to the mistakes he had made, with full knowledge that he would surely had to face the consequences.
Pennhung was being truthful when he said that the imposter duckling wasn't his. Every student that backed him up the night prior believed him.
But the one person that had to believe him, the one person whose decision mattered did not.
Rain begged the Gods above for some way to exchange their fates. She begged for her to be in the place of her brother.
But even the highest authorities are unable to grant the wishes of their devotees.
White gripped Rain's hand, "Please, get some sleep. Try to at least." she whispered softly.
Rain stared at the two girls blankly, "how can I? When I know Pennhung is crying out for help. How can I be okay?" she whispered, not wanting to wake the other girls up.
Rain shook her head, wiping the tears that were not yet surfaced on her face.
"You're going to get sick, Rain." White said.
Rain shrugged, "I don't think it matters."
Fuji sighed as she put a firm hand on her shoulder, "you have to get your shit together. For Pennhung."
"When has getting my shit together ever done any damage control? I am fucked up! I will always be fucked up!" she whispered.
White held onto the Rain's hand, stopping her from digging crescents into her skin. At this point, White was so used to stopping Rain from doing that, it was soon enough going to stick like muscle memory. "We are all fucked up. Why do you think we're in this prison?"
