With the deal struck between the Moirai and the gods, the stranger disappeared as suddenly as he had arrived. The sisters sat in silence for a long moment, contemplating the ramifications of their agreement.

"We must prepare," Ashterrielle said finally, her voice low. "We must begin to search for the mortal who will one day come to challenge us."

Cresentia nodded, and Selene began to spin once again, this time with a renewed determination. They knew that the task before them was daunting, but they also knew that they had no choice but to obey the will of the gods.

So it was that the sisters set out on their journey, traveling the length and breadth of the land in search of the mortal who would one day spin a fate more intricate and complex than their own. They searched high and low, through mountains and valleys, across deserts and oceans, but they found no trace of the mortal they sought.

Days turned into weeks, weeks into months, and still the sisters searched. And as they searched, a strange feeling began to grow within them, a sense that their search was futile, that the mortal they sought did not exist.

Finally, Cresentia spoke, her voice heavy with emotion. "I fear that we have been fooled, sisters. I fear that the gods have no such mortal in mind, that this is all a test of our faith."

Ashterrielle and Selene did not reply, but they too felt the weight of their sister's words. They too feared that they had been led astray, that their agreement with the gods had all been a cruel joke, and that their fate was now uncertain.

And so the sisters continued on their journey, their search now driven not by the hope of finding the mortal who would surpass them, but by the fear of losing their place as the rulers of fate.
