Nadia Petrova had spent the past 500 years searching for her mother, one Katerina Petrova. Nadia had been adopted by a family of travellers as soon as she was born and taken out of her mother's home town to avoid any suspicion or possible future interactions. However, when Nadia became of age, her adoptive family told her the truth and she was shocked to learn that she was separated from her birth mother. The young woman vowed to find her mother and so began her search.

At first she was accompanied by her younger adoptive brother, who was a traveller and practising magic. He used a locator spell using Nadia's blood and they found her mother in a city near what's now known as Czechia. Nadia and Timotei hurried there as fast as carriages could take them. Unfortunately, they were too late and Katerina had disappeared again. The only information they got was from some local witch who'd forged a daylight bracelet for Katerina as she was now a vampire running from the Old Ones, the Original family.

Nadia was terrified to discover that her mother turned into a monster, only to be hunted by the world's oldest vampires. From that day on, the daughter vowed to find her mother and to protect her at all costs. This was when Nadia and Timotei separated because her brother couldn't condone searching for a vampire. He wasn't one to believe in maintaining the balance of Nature but he certainly understood the danger of these monsters and he believed Nadia shouldn't be colluding with them. He left his sister with his traveller dagger to find friends wherever she went and bid her farewell.

Nadia's journey was gruelling to say the least. But then, a few years after she began searching for Katerina, she met a wonderful man in Persia. He was kind and humble. He made her feel special like no other could. And Nadia, Nadia was weak. She put her search for Katerina on hold and decided to marry. Solomon was wonderful to her. He was a carpenter and though their life was nothing of luxuries, it was perfect. And two years after marriage Nadia gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl. They were beautiful. She held them in her arms and cried happy tears. Solomon promised her the world as she'd given him it.

However, that happiness didn't last much longer. As the days passed and Nadia looked upon her children, she was reminded of her own mother. How Katerina must have felt losing her. How she was alone in the world, running away as a vampire from a dangerous fate. Nadia could not stand it any longer and with a heavy heart and strong will, she kissed her children goodbye at night and lay with Solomon one last time before she escaped and began her search again.

Shortly after all of this, Nadia realised how long it would take her to find her mother so she made the very difficult and permanent decision to turn into a vampire. Soon she was united with another group of travellers and chose to remain among them to pursue her goal. One day she thought, one day she'd reunite with her mother at all costs and Katerina would look upon Nadia's face and meet her daughter. And the time had finally come. After 500 years and many failed attempts, Nadia got what she desired. Her mother was back in Mystic Falls and the travellers were there to break their curse.
