Dear Matthew,

I've decided to teach piano. I've got five students now, and although they tend to be lazy in their studies, they all enjoy learning to play, and they love it even more when I sing them songs.

The youngest is Amy. She's only seven, and already she is my most eager and talented student. And she adores me, Matthew! I've never felt such affection for a child.

Last week, she came over to my house to show me a song she wrote all by herself. It was called "Yellow Flowers" and it was about a girl dancing in a meadow, content with life and full of joy.

When she went home, I cried.

She's already using advanced theory, and it was the most beautiful piece I've ever heard. I've never met a more brilliant child.

Because of Amy, I think I've started to find things to be grateful for. Although the loss of you is always a tangible presence around me, I think I've begun to learn to be happy again.

I thank God for that child.

Missing you always,

Adeline
