For the millionth time, Leo spoke too soon. The venti always seemed to find him at the worst possible time. He had also fallen asleep, and Festus was driving. Festus went slowly, trying not to exhaust too much energy. Leo was dreaming of the strawberry fields in Camp Half Blood, the smell of fresh grass, the sound of the river flowing, it sounded so real. He turned when suddenly Frank and Hazel appeared on his right, they looked normal, holding hands. Then they both turned angry, Hazel's golden eyes shone, Frank's fists clenched.
The sky became dark, and stormy clouds began to appear. Their voices, however, were not normal. "You never listen. You're too stubborn. Your jokes are hurtful." Frank and Hazel spoke together. It was like listening to someone who hates you speaking through a cloth with a cold. Piper, Percy, and Annabeth appeared on his left. "You're insufferable. You can't do anything." They said together, their voices also different. Leo tried to run, but Jason appeared in front of him. His eyes were glowing, like when he was about to summon lightning. "You left us.'' It was like a sickly morphed version of his voice. "You left us for her. We thought you were dead. We're sick of your tricks, Leo Valdez." Leo turned nervously, his eyes starting to water. He was terrified, this was his worst nightmare.
"Hey guys, why don't we calm down a bit, eh?" He was trembling now, as all six of his friends bored their eyes into him, all staring at him with pure hatred. Their eyes glowed red. He stepped back as they closed in on him, but Percy and Jason held their swords in a cross to block him. they spoke in complete unison, and Leo felt small and lonely again.
"LEO VALDEZ. LEO VALDEZ. LEO. LEO"
"LEO!" Leo woke up, sweating like crazy. He almost fell off Festus but Calypso caught him. His head was spinning, fragments of the dream coming back to him, ringing in his ears. "Leo, we're in trouble." She said. He looked up, and almost fell off again. Coming at them at an immense speed, were three venti horses, their electric manes sending out sparks.
"Yay, more people to join the party." Leo groaned. The venti encircled them, wanting to feast on Leo, sensing his delicious demigod blood. They kept coming closer, but cautiously. Leo summoned fire in his hands, and launched them at the venti. Unfortunately, they always dodged them, and soon Calypso and him had nowhere to go. Festus clanked something worriedly as a ventus, probably the leader, came in for an attack. Leo took a hammer from his tool belt. He quickly threw it at him, and it made a loud noise, way worse than the hoarse voices in his dream. The others didn't look at all pleased seeing their master dissolve. They charged from both sides, and this time, Leo wasn't quick enough. They sent sparks into the machine, making it overload. The venti disappeared into the wind and reappeared a bit behind, preparing for a secondary attack.
Festus was in bad shape, and they were slowly losing ground. The attackers neighed and were about to charge. Leo didn't know what to do, when Calypso called him.
"Leo, do you still have those mirrors?" she asked. "Give me one and keep two." Leo did as he was told, and the venti started approaching at an alarming rate.
"On my count, angle the mirrors towards the sun!" she ordered. "3...2...1... GO!"
Leo and Calypso both thrust their mirrors at the right angle, just as the horses were about to strike. The reflection blinded the venti, and they shrieked in pain. They retreated, and Leo sighed in relief. Then he felt his stomach churn upside down, and realised that they were still plummeting to the ground. They were gathering speed quickly, and Leo wanted to close his eyes. But he couldn't, Festus and Calypso needed him. Festus seemed deactivated, and Leo held back his anger. Calypso looked determined, her dark almond shaped eyes full of confidence. As they plummeted to the ground she asked, "Does that magic belt of yours have parachutes?"
"What's the magic word?" he smiled and she rolled her eyes. He replied, "No it doesn't. I've already tried." Leo saw Calypso's brain at work, and then her face lit up. She took out her weaving stuff and held out her hand as she sorted it out.
"Rope." and Leo gave it to her.
"Tape." Leo found that too. While she worked, Leo tried to repair Festus, with no success. He saw the ground and calculated they still had about three minutes before becoming Calypso and Leo pancakes. Leo tried to find a way out, his gears working overtime to try to not die. He was about to give up, when Calypso turned to him and shouted over the wind,
"Put your arms around my waist." Her hair was now tangled up, but she still looked dead serious. In her hands was a weird contraption. Leo looked at her with uncertainty.
"We don't have all day! Do you trust me?" She yelled impatiently. Leo didn't want to abandon Festus again, but he had to. Festus was twitching and hymming, while Leo patted him one last time. He hugged Calypso tightly, and they jumped off just in time, as Festus was spiralling towards the ground.
