3. The proposal

That night at her apartment, she can't seem to forget the handsome face of Luchio. There are times that she will just stop and think about it, then she would automatically feel guilty afterwards. She tried to get some sleep. She still feels the headache she had this morning. She's not sure if it was the hangover or her overthinking the whole thing.

Then her thoughts were suddenly interrupted when she heard her laptop ringing.

She suddenly felt nervous. How could she hide something like that to Gale. But then she realized that perhaps, this is the time she's waiting for. She needs to break up with Gale once and for all. Yes, she is guilty for sleeping with another man while in a relationship with him. But their relationship is shrinking deeply like a boat in the Arctic.

She slapped herself and gathered her strength before answering the call.

She stared at the screen. She saw Gale's familiar face. She has memorized his face in the screen, but she seemed to forget her actual face. Would it be the same when in person? Her thoughts lingered again.

"Hi babe." Gale greeted.

She smiled. It was bitter sweet. Soon she won't be hearing that endearment anymore. But it's ok. She has to break up with him. she needs her freedom.

Gale seemed to be in her room. he just probably woke up. Being million miles away from each other, Alexa's night is Gale's morning.

"How was the wedding?"

Well, Alexa won't deprived him of a little courtesy of telling him how the wedding of his best friend went. She tried to sound reassuring and enthusiastic. She saw how he listens with her story. She told him about the part where she caught the bouquet and the man who got the garter. But she skipped the detail that it was Luchio.

"Too bad I was not there. I would try my best to push away everyone so I'll be the one to catch it." Alexa watched his happy face as he told her this. But this is the only thing she has, watch her in this monitor. She would never hug him, touch his face, or hold his hand.

It's been 3 years since they started to be like this. it was thanks to technology that they were able to communicate. If not, their relationship would never last this long. She thought again to herself.

After that, Alexa listened to him rant. But then, she suddenly became quiet. She is no longer listening to him, but was just staring blankly at the monitor. As if watching a rerun of an old and boring TV show. 

As if Gale noticed the sudden change in her face, he immediately stopped and asked her if she's ok. 

"I'm ok. I'm just a little tired. Besides, I have this migraine from last night."

She doesn't know why she has to lie. Obviously, that was her chance to break up with him. However, as if feeling guilty for cheating on him, she can't seem to make herself say something about it. 

"Ow.  Have you drank a lot last night? I wish I am there to ease your pain and to kiss it all away."

Alexa felt more guilty with the concern he is showing. Gale was sweet and Alexa knows that he will do everything to make her happy, except be with her right now.

And so finding her second chance of telling him about what she feel, "Actually Gale, I have something to say."

But Gale seemed to move around the monitor and there was a swift moment at his end.

"Wait babe! I just need to get something."

Alexa sigh losing all the momentum she needs.

Gale seemed to move his monitor on the veranda of his apartment. Alexa could see the wide space behind him and the clouds above. She also noticed that Gale was now wearing what seems to be a coat.

"I'm sorry." He said while trying to be comfortable on his chair.

"I should have done this before. But I was so afraid of the future that I never thought about doing this. But now I am ready."

Whatever it is that Gale was trying to do, Alexa started to feel nervous.

Then suddenly under the bright sun in his area, Alexa saw how Gale kneeled in front of the computer and pick something up inside his coat. Despite the low resolution of her cam, she can tell that it was a ring she was holding.

"Let's get married."
