6. The bad news

Days has passed and there was still no update on the deals with the AutoDeals Corp.. At first she was terrified to contact them considering the possibility of bumping again with Luchio. She is not sure if she could actually handle that. But this is business. Her fear will cost her job. and she can't afford that. When she was about to dial the number of Ms. Cordero, her account manager greeted her in a very loud voice.

"You did it!"

Alexa was startled with her loud voice, then looked around to see whom she is addressing her greeting. But Marissa, her account manager, is intently looking at her. Her doubts were gone when she continued to speak.

"Congratulations Alex! You did it!"

"Did what?"

"You sealed that deal with the AutoDeals Corp."

"I did what?"

"They just called, and were very impressed with the proposal you gave them and decided to accept it. They are planning to get us for a year! Can you believe that!"

"Seriously?" She can't still believe what she is hearing. So, Luchio has accepted her proposal? And not for just one issue but for the whole year. This is something she did not expect. All her apprehensions about the deal were suddenly gone.

"To tell you frankly, I have little hope for this deal. I know, it would be hard for the AutoDeal Corp to accept an advertisement with a women's magazine since we are not their market, but they'd consider it and not just for one issue but for a whole year!" the excitement in Marissa's voice was so contagious that the confusion Alex is feeling has slowly fade away.

"Yeah, actually that is what Luchio, I mean the company has told me." The name almost slips in her mouth. She doesn't know what he is planning for doing this. But it was a good deal and she is very thankful to have it. So whatever he is planning, she doesn't care anymore.

"I knew you are good, but I've never expected you this good! Congratulations Alex." Being praised by her boss is a good feeling. This is the first time that her work was finally acknowledged. And even though it is hard for her to accept what happened, she can't helped but be thankful to Luchio.

Alexa suddenly felt a little jubilant. It's as if a big thorn was pulled out inside her. she decided to go home early and relax. She wanted to rest. For the past months she has been feeling a little restless, and she gets tired easily. It was because of too much stress from the past weeks, she thought to herself.

When she went home, she was greeted with a call from Gale. She was so happy that unlike before she did not hesitate to pick it up.

"Yes hello?" she said happily.

"Hi babe. Sounds like you are having a good time today?" Gale said. Alexa suddenly heard the gloominess in his voice.

"You ok Gale?"

"Well, yes, I'm fine." However, it was obvious that he was not fine.

"Seriously Gale, you don't sound fine to me. Tell me what's wrong come on." Alexa suddenly became a little worried. What ever it is, it doesn't sound really good. But there is no use in getting around the bush.

"Actually, there's a problem."

"Problem? What problem?" Alexa started to panic. How can there be problem? With whom, with what? Gale was just happy and perky in the past days so Alexa can't seem to see what is the problem. Then it hit her. They've had this conversation before. She knows it very well. And now, how can she missed the signs.

"I'm sorry." Gale said.

"I knew it. So you are not coming back right?" There was bitterness in her voice. She sat in her sofa and tried to remove the sudden weight she is feeling. Suddenly she felt very tired.

There was silence on the other line. And then Alexa hang up and threw her phone.

She just wanted to relax and sleep. But after what she heard, she wanted to go out and feel the cold air in the evening. A while back she was happy for having closed a big deal, and now she is crying because her boyfriend will never come back. She regretted hanging up with him. not because she wanted to say sorry or comfort him, or be miserable and sad with Gale, but because she wanted to say good bye. She wanted to break up and end this useless relationship she is in. A relationship that is keeping her forever in a loop.

Her thoughts were clouded and her emotions is playing with her that she doesn't notice, the two man approaching her. She bumped into them.

"Hi Miss. Why are you crying?" The first guy said and tried to wipe about her tears. But she pushed his hands away.

"Damn, aint you a naughty girl?" the other guy said. Both men were reeking of alcohol. She immediately pulled away from them and turned back. But the first guy who wiped her tears suddenly grabbed her firmly.

"Ouch. Don't touch me!" But the guy is very strong and the second guy took hold of her other arm.

"Easy, we just wanted to make you happy."

"Fuck you! You ass!" then she tried to kick the guy's balls. The guy was left crouching in an instant. The moment the second guy pulled away, the first guy immediately took hold of her second hand.

"Why you!" the second guy shouted. Being so helpless, the second man was about to hit her. She closed her eyes and wasn't able to see how the guy was knocked down. The first guy removed her hold to her. When Alexa felt that she was free she opened her eyes.

Upon seeing the familiar face of Luchio, she immediately hugged him so tight and cried.
