4. Nice to meet you again

Upon hearing his words, tears fell down on Alexa's eyes. She was just dreaming about getting married yesterday, and here it is. She never expected that Gale would propose right now. All she thought is that she needs to end their stressful relationship. But now, Alexa's worries seemed to double with Gale's proposal. First, she doesn't know if she is happy seeing Gale half kneeling in front her. Second, she felt guilty that after thinking about breaking up with him, here he is giving his life to her. And lastly, how could she possibly accept something like this, when she already cheated on him. The guilt immediately took over, that it was hard for Alexa to speak.

"Babe are you ok?" He asked when Alexa was suddenly frozen in the screen. He went back to his seat. "I know you're shocked. But I know we have to do this. We've waited for so long for this, and I want to give this to you."

"But how?" is all Alexa can say.

"I'm coming back after three months. And when I come back, I want to make you Mrs. Mercado." Alexa can feel the seriousness and conviction in his tone.

"Really?"

Instead of feeling excited or moved with what he said, she started to feel uneasy.

Three months.

It may not seem long compared to the three years they've been apart together. But she know better. This is like a replay of all the broken promises he gave to her. She has heard him say this before. Three, four, five, months or years? It doesn't matter. It has happened many times before. And not a single promised was fulfilled. 

She wanted to cry again. Will she be able to wait again? Or is it just another attempt to test or stop her from breaking up with him?

As if answering her silent questions, "This is for real. That is why I want to marry you when I come back. Babe, I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Once I come back, we will start new, as husband and wife."

What Gale is offering is something wonderful. But Alexa can't seemed to entertain the idea. Can she really start new with him?

Then after the long silence, Alexa turned her head.

"I'm sorry Gale."

"What? Babe come on! We've been waiting for this!"

"I know, but I just don't think I am ready. I just can't say yes now. Kindly give me some time."

There was pleading in her voice as if she wanted to escape and disappear right now. Feeling the sadness and confusion she is feeling, Gale nodded.

"I understand. You must be quite shocked. And I know this is not the kind of proposal you would want to have, me kneeling in front of the computer while you are far away from me. I know this is silly. But I want you to know that I am serious. I am serious about this, about us. So please think it over babe. I'll be coming home that's for sure."

The only comforting to the things that Gale said is how he gives her time to think. She ignored the last part about him coming back home.

How can she be this cruel? This insensitive.

Then she suddenly thought of Monica, if only Monica was here she would definitely comfort her. But she can't bug her best friend who's now enjoying her honeymoon.

After saying goodbye, she turned off her computer and went to bed. Tears keep flowing from her eyes. When she got tired from crying she finally went to sleep.

It's been three days since she had that call from Gale. No video calls after that. But she kept on receiving sweet messages from the man. It was normal for them to chat but Gale seems to have become sweeter and more romantic to her. Every time he is being kind to her, she can't help but feel guilty. She doesn't want this sweetness, this attention. She wanted her freedom. It is not that she doesn't love Gale. She still like him, but not the same as before.
