This story takes place in a modern Hyrule, if a land of monsters was merely a legend, and magic was a fairy tale.
Hyrule parallels our own world, even with an equivalent of The Legend of Zelda and other media. Instead of a royal family governing, it's a presidential setting.
Zelda's family is still high status, with her father working closely with the president, but not royalty. Unlike most zelink stories, her father is actually nice, and not a trauma causing piece of crap. She has excelled at many subjects and activities, but is mocked for her high status, making it difficult to make friends. She is very sweet and nurturing, but often thinks she's overdoing it, and gets embarrassed.
Link comes from a noble family, well versed in sword fighting and other fine arts. Link has been shy all his life, only opening up to those he truly trusts. He acts as a guard to those he doesn't even know, for the sake of making the world better. He may seem cold and serious on the outside, but he's truly loving and caring.
