Erelah's voice was a ghostly whisper in the thick silence. She held his eyes, heart clenching for whatever was going to happen next. She had thought about this many times, her mind conjuring endless timelines of how this would play out. So far, this was one of the better outcomes...
"This isn't a dream is it?" There was a slight fear lingering behind that question. It shown in his green eyes. It made her wonder just how much she haunted his dreams for him to question if this was one. Erelah shook her head, forcing a small smile to her lips. He returned the smile and that seemed to sooth a bit of her nerves. A long silence followed, both angel and human speechless as they scrutinized each other. "I didn't think you would come back..."
His words made Erelah bite her lip as a new wave of tears threatened to spill over. "I c-couldn't stay away." She hiccupped. "No matter how hard I tried I couldn't stop thinking about you..."
"Then we are one in the same." Erelah shook her head.
"I tried to forget about you, Samuel...The rules do not permit me to be here." His brows pinched together in confusion.
"But you are here now? What has changed?" Erelah struggled to answer. Her thoughts too jumbled and scattered to form a decent response. Why did he have to look so beautiful?
"I couldn't..." She began. Samuel watched her expectantly. "I couldn't let go. There is something here, Samuel...something binding us together and it scares me to no end. This is forbidden.."
"I feel it too." Erelah's eyes snapped back to his, widening in surprise as the truth of his words sifted to her. "I kept thinking you were a dream but that night kept coming back to me and it felt too real not to believe. Then it felt like something was missing..." His eyes searched her face before leaving it and rested on the piece of parchment still clutched in her hand. Gently, he reached for it and plucked it from her fingers. "I thought I was going mad..." He said glancing from the paper back to her.
"I don't know what's happening. I never meant for this to happen..." He looked sad, like she had wounded him.
"You are here now, to me that's all that matters...But that doesn't explain the tears." Erelah sighed heavily before relaxing back onto the floor with her legs tucked beneath her. She didn't particularly want to lay out her problems at his feet but she was also too tired to hold it all in any longer. When she didn't answer right away, she heard him sigh, the bed creaking as he scooted to the edge of the bed and placed his feet on the floor. Samuel groans as he stands, taking a moment to stretch as her eyes roamed curiously over his toned physique. She had never looked at someone in such a way...desire? Is that what this what she was feeling? Samuel sat cross-legged on the floor before her, head resting against the bed as his eyes stared out the window.
"I haven't been home in 11 days..." She said finally. Samuel's attention snapped to her with brows raised.
"Home as in Heaven, right?" Erelah nodded. "Why? I would have guessed angels preferred Heaven to here." Erelah wrapped her wings a little tighter around her, forming a cocoon despite the tight space. It made her feel warm.
"I got into a disagreement with Mi-... my mentor. We are both not very happy with each other right now and I don't have the energy to face him..."
"May I ask what happened. Is that all that troubles you?" Samuel's question were innocent enough but answering them made her hesitate. What does it matter, just tell him...
"He said he love me..." Again a surprised expression crossed Samuel's face though, his eyes hid an emotion from her that she couldn't decipher.
"You do not love him back?" Erelah leased a humorless chuckle and wiped a stray tear from her swollen eyes.
"I don't know what love is..." A new wave of sorrow and frustration washed over her, hurriedly she wiped away the tears with a soft sniffle. "How can I love someone when I don't know how?" Samuel seemed to ponder this for a time, the silence almost deafening. So quiet, she could hear the faintest rhythm of his heartbeat.
"Could you ever love him back?" He asked finally. Erelah shrugged her shoulders.
"Maybe, but if love hurts this bad and is this confusing I don't think I want it..."
"I've never been in love, so don't feel to bad about it." Erelah managed a smile but it still hurt...
