It was several weeks later from the prolouge, or in other words, when this story actually takes place. The Cat sat alone in her lab as she toiled at her work. The light from it creeped along her mask, casting a grim shadow on her face. It was late, extremely late, as she worked; it was also dead quiet. Perfect conditions for what she was working on. The machine she was working on, if it worked correctly, would allow him to build an entire army in no time.
It was her magnificent, almost entirely failproof, wonderfully evil plan. And it was going to go splendidly well.
But then, something broke through the large skylight-like window at the top of the wall opposite The Cat. She jolted her head up to it. It looked like-
"A cartoonish stock bone on a string?"
Then, something- no, someone!- shot upwards to the window. In the depths of the shadowy night, it was hard to tell who, but the silhouette of a dog-like thing on two legs was standing there.
Suddenly, glass broke and crashed, and The Cat covered her head as she dove under the table she'd been hunched over while working.
"Stop! In the name of the paw!"
That voice- it was awfully familar. No matter, The Cat thought as she got back out from under the table, laughing.
"Oh, and who are you supposed to be? Some new vigilante crime fighter?"
"I'm," the crimefighting hesitated, "Im the Incredible Dog-Man, and I'm here to st-"
"Shhh!" She put her elbow on the wanna-be vigilante's shoulder as she laughed heartily. "Ohohohoho," she dropped her voice and glared at Dog-Man. "Don't make me laugh." She shoved him a bit, spinning around to her project to attach the last bit.
Suddenly, The Cat was sent tumbling into it, and after she caught herself she turned around and kicked Dog-Man in his stomach, which sent him stumbling backwards.
She got up and kicked him, but he swung a punch into her mask, sending her to the floor.
She awkwardly grabbed for a weapon, keeping his eyes locked on her opponent, and when she did grab a weapon she thrusted it forward into shooting position.
She clicked the trigger a few times. Nothing came out, and Dog-Man panted as he drew closer.
Out of options, she threw it at Dog-Man, and it clipped him in the robotic jaw. It sent him out of balance, and she swung to punch the helmet he wore as hard as she could, but he grabbed onto her arm and chomped onto it as hard as he could.
With a jolt of pain, she flailed backwards, hitting something. She jolted back, and both of them watched in dead silence as the machine sprung to life, making horrific noise as it did so.
When it became evident that this was gonna take a while, The Cat pounced onto the unsuspecting Dog-Man, knocking him to the floor as she punched him. She tried to rip off his costume's jaw, when suddenly a phsssh sound alerted both of them.
She whipped her head around to the source of the sound. The door the clone was supposed to come out of slid open, and standing inside...
Her mind raced through the possibilities. The machine wasn't completed yet, after all; there was no telling what the missing parts would have messed up in their absence.
She dropped Dog-Man, blood drawn from her hands from punching metal and plastic, and she approached the fog emitting from the cylindrical clone compartment.
"Hello?" She called out, and the fog cleared.
Standing inside the clone compartment was a child-sized, orange kitten standing on two legs.
"Hiya!"
