Love's Gross

(Based on Project Inheritance)

By DaringDanger

As the party walked away, Cordy knew she hadn't been good enough, again. Not good enough for Alistair.

But he'd said she was enough for him, and he wouldn't lie to her right? Not after saving her twice, not after the robbery, not after falling asleep hand in hand.

"I made a mistake." Cordy said out loud.

"What?" Her friends seemed baffled.

"Don't follow me." She instructed before darting away from them, back towards the city.

"Cordy!" The four yelled behind her. She jumped into a tree and climbed, before hopping from one tree to the next, the wall towering over her. With a scream she lunged from the tree and sunk her rapier into a gap in the wall. She reached for the next stone and jammed her fingers into the gap. Even with her sword the climb was the hardest she'd ever undertaken.

As the top loomed close Cordy grabbed a stone and threw herself onto the top. She sheathed her sword and armed herself with her father's glaive. She entered a sprint to the closest watchtower.

A rebel guard was watching the inside of the town, but not watching his own wall. She slowed and crept in on the post, before lunging and grappling the guard, pulling him to the ground and placing her dagger against his throat.

"Oh god kid. Please, please don't do anything rash!" He begged.

"Call me a kid again and I'll slit your throat. Where are you taking prisoners!?"

"I can't just tell you that!" She inched the blade close enough that a drop of blood trickled from its edge.

"If you want to see anyone you care about ever again, tell me!" Her screams hurt her throat.

"Fine, you won't get anywhere alone, kid. We made a camp near the shopping district, took over a few buildings thanks to our corporate donor."

"Thanks." She flipped the dagger in her hand and hit the guard in his temple with the blunt side, knocking him to the ground. "I really hope that didn't kill you." She shivered a bit before descending the stairs to the street level. It was a long walk, and one she'd have to stay in the shadows for. This would be exhausting.

While the Raxan Rebels were a lot of things, quiet was not one of them. An entire block of buildings south of the market were adorned with their stupid flags, guards posted at each one as well. Cordy really didn't understand any of this. There weren't enough of them to take this city, almost as though Crobanya didn't really fight back.

She waited for a window and darted across the street. Even if it was quick, that sprint made her incredibly uneasy. On the other hand, if that was the riskiest thing she'd do on this rescue she was home free, right? Pressing on she moved around the back of the row of buildings and took a peek around, seeing only one guard at the back door. She readied her glaive and inched closer to the man.

Cordy chucked her dagger into the street, the mans' eyes darting to the metallic sound. He moved towards it a bit and she ran up to him and swung full force with the back of her glaive into his head, knocking him to the ground. His head bounced once and left a little blood. She poked him with the weapon once to make sure he was down before dragging him back to the alley she'd started in. His helmet had a big dent in it from her, she was again hoping she didn't swing too hard.

She checked her corners again and ran to grab her dagger, before darting to the back door, which she found delightfully unlocked. The part of the building she was in was worn, perhaps where the trash was taken out? She walked to the closest corner and looked around the corner, another door.
