For the next months there were no more attempts at teaching Akira to obey, and all focus was put mainly into the research of some barrier that could keep Akira better and more safely contained during sessions. All in all however, things almost completely halted at the facility. The company that made the original nine angels, which was called the Kokuyōseki Purojekuto, or the "Obsidian Project," was put into the dark for a while, with the government officials responsible for its creation refusing to speak on the subject. Akira was alive, and so the team could not simply abandon the shell in its containment room, even if it was too disgusted to attempt an escape. Just as the group had begun to run early tests on Akira, countries such as the UK, The United States, and China, had realized the threat of one group of people controlling sentient weapons capable of wiping out entire cities in mere hours. The US was able to develop the shells for the angels due to info gained via spies, however, they were unable to animate them until later, at which time they decided to only spark one at a time as a safety measure in case they decided to self terminate, which could cause trauma upon possible siblings. They ended up only having to spark one, giving it higher thinking capabilities than the Obsidian Project counterparts, as well as a slightly decreased morals system, which had been decided upon after seeing what happened to Akira and her sisters. The United States angel had been named Alexander and was announced to the public three years after the Obushidian'enjeruzu had been launched. The UK failed to develop a shell strong enough to sustain the sentience of an angel, and they stopped their research division after two years of attempting to create one. China noted the approach taken by the US and decided to create just one at a time. The development of the weapons came very easy to China as they too had had a number of spies in Japan and at the Obsidian Project headquarters. Never could any civilization in the modern world have anticipated the strength of the being that was about to be given form. Jun was developed with a steel reinforced shell and the ability to obey some basic instructions, as well as a lack of most emotion that could intrude in a mission. Jun was designed with the idea that these weapons may have to face each other, "if worst comes to worst, and we need to unleash our creation onto the world, we will need to not only take out the cities of the enemies, but also any angels they might have." He was made to be stronger, stealthier, larger, sturdier, and have a stronger will than Akira, Alexander, or any other angel that would be capable of being created within the next decade. However, his higher sentience would eventually lead to the death and destruction of many facilities and lives. China had in fact developed a lock to prevent Jun from harming his creators, but they failed to account for his sentient capabilities, and the possibility that this power could override this lock. A few months after Jun had been activated, he supposedly sensed the presence of a being that shared his type, and proceed to break out of the facility while killing a total of thirty four researchers and sixteen guards, making his way to Japan at speeds faster than almost any commercial airplane, which gave scientists the first ever images of an Obsidian Angel using their wings. Jun arrived at the Obsidian Project facility within thirty minutes, despite constant anti-aircraft fire from below, and crashed into the cement outside of the main building. He then proceeded to terminate the guards at the doors and enter the complex, taking out many more researches as he approached Akira's containment area, one of these lives being that of Dr. Miura himself. He reached the sealed doors, punctured them, and walked through, entering Akira's chamber. This was the first time that two Obsidian Angels had been in the presence of each other directly, without walls or glass between them. Jun was designed for total termination without hesitation, and was given no moral compass or emotional system, and so his first order of business would be to get rid of competition. Akira looked solemnly and the angel, no, at the devil in front of her and rose, facing the beast. They may have been made the same way, but they were not siblings. A single punch from Jun would have devastated her, would have shattered her, but it was clear at this point the sheer willpower that Akira possessed, her capability to keep holding on through everything that she had experienced. Jun threw a punch, faster than sound, and Akira lifted her hand to block it. He punched again, and she blocked yet again, her hand was cracked, but he kept punching and she kept blocking, over and over and over, until her fingers fell to the floor in a million pieces. In a moment of realization, Akira understood that she had to destroy Jun. She hated violence, but that was all that Jun cared about. In his last punch, Akira lifted a single finger, and touched his fist, shattering it in one moment, and in the next, turning Jun to glass shards, his body seeming to move like liquid as it fell, millions of grains of his form like sand in a sand timer. She collapsed, exhausted and relieved that the fighting was over. The military arrived soon after, taking Akira to a safer location and evacuating the entire complex.

While all of this was happening, some US officials had begun to wonder if the world should simply destroy the remaining angels to avoid intense destruction, although they couldn't convince the government to let them terminate the shells and of course, Alexander. They hadn't run very many tests at all on Alexander, but overall he was acting quite calm, and people had been asking for quite a while about when teaching sessions would begin. His only purpose in life, just like all of the others, was to destroy, and up until then, that is all he had known. One day, the control room had forgotten to seal up the windows of his room. Of course, Alexander wasn't going to destroy the window unprovoked, but what he saw out there made his entire form stay perfectly still. He saw the sky, the trees, the wonderful animals, plants, the clouds, the sun, all of it was there for him to see, and he loved every bit of it. It was almost an awakening for him as he finally came to the realization that what he was made to destroy wasn't just evil, there was good out there too, pure life and simple creatures just living their lives. He was a killer of innocence he realized, and he wanted no part in it. Knowing that the sooner he left, the less chaos it would cause, and so he lifted his hand to the glass and watched it melt to the floor, giving him an escape into this wonderful world. Although his senses were not nearly as powerful as Jun's, and even though he was much farther away, he could still sense Akira's presence out there somewhere. Together they could save humanity, together they could destroy the shells and save the world from inevitable destruction. War was closer than ever, and it was the fault of these false angels. They would do what needed to be done to deliver death upon evil, and prosper in the light of a carefree world, as kindreds of a new future.
