Everly ~

Later that evening, after dinner and a long bath, I dressed myself in a soft nightgown and readied myself for bed. A light breeze moved the long drapes that hung on either side of my window and the movement in my peripheral vision caught my attention.

Whipping my head toward the window, I found nothing except the cool night air and starry night sky.

I wonder when Kaes will return. I hope it's soon. This guilt is eating me alive. I was so cruel to him.

My mind replayed the look of shock, disbelief, and anger when I had misplaced so much blame on his shoulders and my brows dropped with disappointment in myself as I turned and reached for the door.

"I see you found the clothes I left for you." A familiar voice purred from the window's ledge.

Whirling around with a gasp, I found Kaes, casually sitting in my window, leaning against one side. He examined his nails as if I were a bore to him but I was relieved to see him.

"I wouldn't dare ask where you got them." I shot back.

Kaes placed his hand on his chest, giving me a playful look as he feigned offense.

"You insult my character, Everly." He sneered. "I stole them from only the finest shops."

His feline-like grin lifted the side of his mouth as he unapologetically admitted to his crimes.

"Of course." I gave him an eye roll, but I wasn't surprised.

"Interesting that you choose to ridicule me when you're the one who called me here."

My face scrunched in confusion.

"I didn't call you here." I insisted.

"Oh but you did. I was in a quaint little town, searching for a bite to eat, but imagine my surprise when I heard a sad guilty little nymph call out to me by name."

Kaes' gave me a sadistic grin and I wanted to smack right off of his face. I glared at him, saying nothing and regretting my internal monologue of guilt over him.

"What's wrong garden nymph? Is the mate bond too overwhelming? Or perhaps Ronan has already injured you with his massive...personality." Kaes scoffed.

My mouth dropped open with disgust as I snatched a pillow from my bed and threw it at him. Kaes caught it effortlessly, placing it back onto the bed with a calmness that was infuriating.

"Why did you call me here?" He asked, his grin ever present.

"I was going to apologize, but I've since changed my mind." I spat, folding my arms across my chest.

"I accept your apology."

I huffed out an irritated breath and narrowed my eyes at Kaes and his games.

"You can return to your meal, whoever she is." I snapped.

My words caused Kaes' smile to travel further up his cheek, revealing his canines that were sharp and slightly longer than his other teeth.

"Get changed. There's something I'd like to show you."

"Now? But Ronan is expecting me and it's already so late..."

Giving me an eye roll, Kaes waved his hand in the air, summoning a piece of paper and a pen from the desk by the door.

"I'll leave a note that explains everything." Kaes insisted, twirling his hand in the air which caused the pen to start to scribble words on the paper.
