It was 7 o'clock. Closing time. A small purple haired girl made a sigh of relief as she looked at the clock. Today had been a long day and she was very tired, she couldn't seem to wait to get some rest. Walking forwards to the door, the girl looked outside of the coffee shop and smiled slightly. Being there reminded her of old times... Kaneki, Hinami. It was like they were family, the way they were all so close and connected. Flipping the sign over from 'OPEN' to 'CLOSED', the girl started cleaning up the tables. Then she heard something that sounded a lot like a cough. She shrugged it off, probably hearing things. She was tired after all, and wanted to take a nap. Proceeding to clean up, she then heard it again, and froze. Someone was in Anteiku she declared, starting to panic. Then she made a quick decision to show her kagune; she didnt want to risk the fact it could be a Dove. Her kagune was extremely bright, glowing red and orange. It looked like a pair of wings, apart from one of them looked smaller than the other. Her pupils became a red dot in a mass of darkness as she looked around, preparing to fight whoever was lurking in the shadows. Then a small chuckle was heard, then a voice. "Touka.. It's me. Kaneki."
The girl who was now named Touka froze, unable to comprehend what was going on. Was it really Kaneki? "Show yourself." She declared, letting her kagune fade and her eyes return to normal. The ghoul stepped forwards in front of Touka with a small smile. He was covered in cuts and bruises. Touka immediately ran to get some aid, but as she did so Kaneki spoke again. "It's fine. They will heal. I came here to see you." Touka turned around, unable to control her emotions and began to tear up and fell to the floor in a sorrowful heap. Her best friend that she hadn't seen in such a long time had decided to come and see her, and she greeted him with no words.. but tears. Kaneki walked over to Touka and kneeled down beside her and wrapped his arms around her to hug her. "I'm so sorry I left you, Touka." He mumbled, a sad look on his face. She shook her head, and wiped her tears. "Ha... Look at me. I shouldn't be crying.." She replied, a weak smile forming on her face.
"It's okay." Kaneki replied. "It's my fault for leaving you."
Touka looked Kaneki in the eye, and frowned slightly. "Why?" She questioned. "Why..."
Kaneki looked down to the ground and said the words, "To protect Anteiku."Touka looked away. "Are you just saying that? Or do you really mean it?" She enquired, her tone was dull. Kaneki nodded. "I mean it." Touka hadn't understood why Kaneki had left them all those years ago, and it wasn't coming to her that he had returned now. She brushed away her purple hair from her eye and sighed. It had been so long and she just didn't know what to do now that he had returned. "Hey kaneki..." She murmured, "Did you miss me?"
Kaneki immediately replied. "Yes, a lot." He smiled. "I'm just glad you're okay." Kaneki looked down at the wounds which were taking an awfully long time to heal, and looked back at Touka who was also looking down at the wounds. "How did you get them?" She asked with a small frown. Kaneki shook his head. "It doesn't matter. They'll heal up soon enough." The girl then stood up and stretched; She had been on the floor for an awfully long time, and started to get uncomfortable. She glared up at the clock. 8 o'clock already? That reminded Touka how tired she really was and yawned. Kaneki also stood up and gave an awkward smile. "Do you have a spare ro-"
Touka grabbed his arm and walked over to her bedroom. "I have a floor." She responded, pointing to the floor. Kaneki sighed and looked at Touka. "Fine. It was my bad timing coming here so late." He mumbled. Touka nodded and walked out of the room and into the bathroom to get changed. She dropped her top and bra and then heard footsteps. "KANEKI!" She yelled, grabbing her top and covering herself, then turned around to see Kaneki stood outside the door awkwardly. "Sorry. Do you have something for me to like get comfy with on the floor? It's really uncomfortable..." He groaned, but then covered his eyes because he remembered that Touka was almost naked in front of him, then blushed. "Dammit, Kaneki. Go look in the cupboard..." She sighed, closing the door and put her nightwear on. It was only a t-shirt and shorts, just something comfy. Opening the door, the walked down the hall and into her room where Kaneki was sat on the floor. "There wasn't a blanket." He spoke. Touka rolled her eyes, and sat on her bed, and threw a blanket down. Kaneki then thanked her and put his head down to sleep. Touka was staring up at the ceiling, unable to sleep. She was so tired, yet couldn't seem to sleep. Then she heard Kaneki. "Hey, Touka. It's cold." Touka rolled over to face Kaneki. "What do you want me to do? Control the temperature?" She groaned, sounding tired. "Can I sleep at the end of your bed?" He added. Touka sat up and grabbed a pillow, putting it in between the bed. "Come here." She replied drowsily, patting the bed. Kaneki stood up and almost ran to the bed. "Thanks."
"Mmhm." Touka responded bluntly, and laid back down into bed with a yawn. Kaneki turned over and faced Touka; which was only her back. He smiled and closed his eyes. "Goodnight, Touka."Sunlight shone through the window and into Touka's eyes, waking her up with a huge frown to start the day off. As soon as she opened her eyes she saw that she had fallen out of bed and Kaneki somehow had taken over the space. She then stood up, walked to the end of the bed and sat down. "Kaaannneeeekkkiiiiiii!" She yelled, hoping to awaken him. Nope. He must've been very tired to get to sleep so easily and then not wake up Touka thought. She shrugged and then got up, walking to the coffee machine to get something to drink. Doing the usual things to get a coffee made, she heard Kaneki in the other room get up, followed by footsteps to where she was. Touka looked over at him and couldn't help but smile at his bed hair. How adorable. Kaneki sat down on a chair and looked up a Touka. "Good Morning..." He moaned, half asleep. Touka nodded as a response, and stirred the coffee. "If you want a coffee, the machines there." She pointed at the machine, putting the spoon down and walked to the table. "Ah. No thanks." Replied Kaneki who looked and sounded as if he was asleep. Touka waited for her coffee to cool down, but in the meantime she asked, "I take it you slept well assuming you took up the whole bed and managed to push me off the bed during your sleep." Kaneki looked shocked, but was soon laughing. "Did I.. Did I really do that in my sleep?" He chuckled, looking away.
"Yes, you did. You're lucky I didn't wake up when I fell.." She mumbled, then took a sip of her coffee, staring at the white haired boy with an unamused expression on her face. Kaneki looked back at Touka. "Sorry." He replied quietly. That may be the last time he slept in Touka's bed for a while.Later on in the day, Touka and Kaneki started to catch up on things, telling each other everything that had happened whilst they weren't together. One thing Touka didn't like was Hide's death. She knew how much Hide meant to Kaneki, and for him to have been taken away like that must've really hurt him mentally. Then Touka started to explain how weird it was without him around, and how alone she felt now that everyone had left. Apart from Hinami... Hinami was in a coma from when she was attacked. Touka didn't want to tell Kaneki but she had to. They both had encountered some traumatic things, but now they had each other to keep happy. They were silent for a while, Touka was sat next to Kaneki on her bed, and then rested her head on his shoulder, which caused him to blush a bit and smiled. He ran his fingers through her short hair, and then kissed the top of her head. At that moment, Touka broke down into tears. "Kaneki, I'm sorry. I've just had nobody and-" She was cut off by Kaneki putting his arms around her and pulling her into a hug. "It's okay..." He whispered, holding her in his arms. Touka felt a lot better after that, and smiled. She felt protected whenever she was with him, and it was always a good feeling. Kaneki meant a lot to Touka, and Touka meant a lot to Kaneki. They both missed each other so much and it felt so relieving to be back as it was...
