The first stop on our trip was the MeriTech building. The three of us hoped very much that Five had fallen asleep in the car and was still in it. Unfortunately, it turned out to be quite the opposite. There was also no sign of Delores. The only thing Five left behind in the car was his bag. Diego found Vanya's autobiography, with lots of notes in it. The book's first page also had the name of the library Five borrowed it from.

Around 2:00 p.m. we walked through the large marble doors into the Argyle Public Library. We walked on foot, because neither of us wanted to hail a taxi or jostle on buses.

'What is Five doing at the library? Looking for information on how to prevent the end of the world?'

According to my calculations, we only had 5 days left to come up with something and start doing it. From the information I received this morning, it was clear that there are a lot of things we need to deal with.

Luther, Diego, and I stood in the center of the main hall. I looked around. The library building was enormous. I didn't count the floors, but I estimated something like ten or twelve. I immediately imagined how it would feel to fall from—

"Okay, let's split up," Diego muttered, running to the left and not waiting for an answer.

"Good thinking," Luther shouted after him, then looked at me. "(Y/N), you're coming with me, okay?"

"I'll be fine, Luther," I growled, feeling my voice still not back to normal. "I don't need a babysitter."

Before he could reply, I turned around and entered the elevator to the first floor of the building.

"Got anything?"

We searched almost all the floors of the building and found neither Five nor his lovely companion. We could have left her anyway. Better yet, throw her in the fireplace. Or drop her from the top floor to smash her to pieces. Or—

"Nope," Diego leaned resignedly against the railing.

I stood next to him, panting with the effort. The library was huge, and Five could be found in even the smallest, darkest alley. I was mentally chastising myself for not being fit. No, I actually had an excuse. In the past three days, I had barely closed my eyes and my head was aching from the blows I had received to my face and the cut that had been throbbing with dull pain until then.

But no, I had to save the world. There was no time for rest. Not even a damn second.

Luther's slightly raised voice snapped me out of my thoughts. It turned out that the boys had been having a heated discussion for several minutes. Which, of course, I wasn't going to be part of. Another wonderful feature of mine. I was afraid of difficult conversations that required thinking and analyzing various facts.
