This is a fanfiction for 'the Books of Beginning' by John Stephens. I don't claim to own the series, its characters, or any of the quotes that I use throughout this fic. I do, however, own the rest of the writing, which was originally published on Archive of Our Own:

I also use various quotes as epigraphs at the beginning of chapters. I don't own these either, and I have cited them as best I can.
'Join the Dance' follows Rafe's perspective before and during 'The Fire Chronicle'. The main divergence from the book is that Kate arrives in New York a week earlier. This is because I wanted to expand on such elements as Kate and Rafe's relationship and the choices that lead to Rafe's fate. Another difference is that Rafe learns certain information earlier than he does in the book. Both of these small changes might add up to something in the end, but we shall have to see.
This story does contain some violence, and might have occasional offensive language, period-typical attitudes or sexual references. Really though, it's only a little more mature than the books.
