Hey, I'm going to get a drink, okay?" I said to Jenna.
"Yeah, sure."
"Do you want anything?" I asked.
"No, I'm good, thanks, girl."
I nodded and walked toward the drinks table, where two boys were standing.
"One boy asked, 'Coke or mojito?'"
"Coke, please," I answered.
The boy handed me the coke, but as soon as I tasted it, I spat it out.
"This has alcohol in it. It tastes like rum," I said to the boy, returning the drink.
"No," he said, giving it back to me. "Take it."
"No, I don't want it," I said.
"Take it," he continued to push.
Before I could process it, a fist came out of nowhere and punched the boy in the face.
I looked to my right and saw Nick standing there.
"No means no, asshole," he said to the boy now lying on the ground.
"Why did you have to fucking punch him?" I asked curiously.
"He was forcing you to drink that when you clearly said no."
"I had it under control," I responded.
"It didn't fucking look like it," Nick said as we walked away from the two boys.
"Well, I did. You don't need to solve everything with violence."
"So I was supposed to just stand there and let him drug you when I'm supposed to be ensuring your safety?"
"Drug me? What do you mean?" I asked, taken aback.
"Those are the guys who spike girls' drinks. You were about to become a fucking victim."
"Oh shit."
"I warned you about them before we came here, and you didn't listen."
"You didn't tell me who exactly was spiking girls' drinks, so how was I supposed to know who to be cautious of?"
"Use your fucking head, Noah. Why would you accept a drink from a stranger anyway?"
"Because it's a party? Isn't that what everyone does?"
"I don't give a fuck about everyone; I give a fuck about you because if anything happens to you, I'll get the blame."
"So the only reason you care is so you won't get the blame?"
"Just be grateful I was there, Noah," Nick said, clearly aggravated.
I rolled my eyes at him and tried to walk away, but he stopped me by grabbing my wrist, pulling me toward him. He looked into my eyes and asked, "Where's Jenna?"
The close proximity between us made my breath quicken."Over there," I pointed in her direction.
"Why weren't you with her?"
"I went to get a drink."
"You're going home. Tell Jenna to take you."
I pulled my wrist away from his grip and said, "I'm not going anywhere. Don't tell me what to do."
"Fine. Just don't come running to me if something goes wrong again."
"Fuck you," I said to Nick. "And I didn't come running to you; you came to me."
"Fuck you too, Noah," Nick said in response.
We both gave each other a glare before walking in opposite directions.
I made my way toward Jenna.
"What took you so long?" Jenna asked, curious.
"Nothing."
Jenna looked at me, clearly aware that it wasn't 'nothing,' but she didn't continue to question me.
