As I collapsed onto my bed, I reflected on the unexpected yet anticipated moment I had with Nick. I desired his reaction, yearned to feel his lips on mine. Since the day I met him, it's been the only thing on my mind... and it finally happened. However, even though Nick and I aren't officially together, I can't help but feel jealous knowing he's still involved with that Anna girl. But I suppose it is what it is.
As if he could read my thoughts, a message from Nick appeared on my phone:

Nick: That was fun ;)

Me: It was ;) we should do it again sometime

Nick: I'm down whenever, baby sis 😙

I gazed at our messages, a smile forming on my face. Excitement coursed through me at the thought of Nick and me. Rolling onto my belly, I squealed into my pillow and kicked my feet in the air, like a child gleefully playing in a puddle, relishing in the simple pleasure of splashing around.
My blissful moment was interrupted by another message on my phone. I assumed it was from Nick again, but to my surprise, it was a message from Jenna. I wondered what she wanted to say:

Jenna: Hey, race tomorrow night, you coming?

Me: Race? What race?

Jenna: Ohh... you don't know?

Me: No, I don't. But since you've mentioned it, you have to tell me now

Jenna: I thought Nick would've already told you, but I guess there's a reason he hasn't.

Me: What are you talking about, Jenna?

Jenna: Nothing, but now that I've already told you, you might as well come tomorrow night.

Me: I'll talk to Nick about it.

Jenna: Okay, let me know what he says.

Me: Will do. Love you, bye x

Jenna: Love you too, bye 🩷

After concluding my conversation with Jenna, I pondered what she was referring to. Nick never mentioned a race happening tomorrow. Hoping Anna had left his room, I went to see him and knocked on his door. He answered promptly.

"Baby sis?" Nick said.

"Can I talk to you real quick, please?" I asked.

Nick nodded, letting me in and closing the door behind him.

"There's a race happening tomorrow night," I stated.

"How do you know about that race?" Nick questioned.

"Why does that matter?" I replied.

"Because you aren't supposed to know about those races."

"Why?" I asked curiously.

"It doesn't matter why," Nick said.

"Seriously? This again? Whenever I ask you something, you always avoid answering and say, 'never mind.'

"Because I don't owe you an explanation, Noah," Nick said in a bitter tone.

"Fine. But just so you know, I'll be coming to that race."

"Fantastic," he sarcastically replied.
"You can leave my room now."

I was about to say something, but then I realized that Nick isn't worth it. He always does this—gets defensive when I ask him a question. So instead, I rolled my eyes at him and walked back to my room. Once inside, I messaged Jenna about what Nick said, as she had asked me to:

Me: Hey Jenna, just spoke to Nick. When I asked him about the race, he questioned how I know and said I shouldn't be aware of it. I asked why, and he got defensive.

Jenna: Maybe because they're kind of... illegal, and his papá doesn't know about them. Especially that Nick uses the Porsche his papá gave him for his birthday to race.

Me: William doesn't know?

Jenna: Nope, he's oblivious to everything.

Me: That explains why Nick is keeping this whole thing a secret.

Jenna: Yep, but are you still coming? We'll deal with Nick when we get there.

Me: Yes, I am. Thanks, Jenna. See you tomorrow.

Jenna: 🥰

Now I understand why Nick didn't want to tell me about these races. I assume he was maybe afraid that I'd tell William. But it always seems like Nick is hiding something, as he constantly tells me to leave the situation. It seriously makes me wonder if I can trust him or not. How can you trust someone who hides everything?
