"LADDER 19, ENGINE, 19, AID CAR 19 needed outside of town at Seattle Horse Rescue. Missing person report, police on their way to the scene. New information to follow."
With that, any power nap chance was gone.
Hours before, Maya had arrived with the biggest smile on her face and despite being heavily teased by Vic and Andy, she did actually tell everyone how nice her small holiday with Carina was. The entire actually told her how happy they were for them, for being able to take a break - in their own way. Travis couldn't shut up after he said a thing or two a bit too personal, but everyone laughed. Ben said Miranda told him Carina was anxious like a small child the whole day at work she even said she could go home early, but the woman started speaking in italian and she just took that as "no, leave me alone I'm thinking about my wife and I'm anxious", she had no idea what she actually said. Other than the Aid car being briefly requested to assist another Station, it was a calm shift. Andy did mention they were lucky, as last team was on scene for such a long time they could barely move when they got back.
The thing with firefighters is you can train as much as you want or you need or as you are told to, but there are some situations where there is no training to prepare you for. No one prepares you to tell a mom she needs to keep moving and not get her son's first teddy bear, how do you tell a little kid you couldn't find her dog? A teen that there's nothing left in his room? A young woman that everything she owned burned down in her recently bought apartment? Little Pru being a close example, no wanted Dean to pass but on top of that they had to also think about his legacy, and hope that his daughter would stay with the family he chose. They all know the risks, but are they really prepared for them?Jack was in the kitchen eating some cookies with Vic and Travis while Sullivan made some coffee. Andy was in her office on a meeting with Natasha Ross, going over some numbers the Station currently achieved and hopefully future ideas for the department itself. Maya ended up falling asleep on the couch as she watched some random show on tv, it was getting late at night and she couldn't fight it anymore. Of course, nothing lasts forever and their calm shift was interrupted by the alarm calling the whole team into action. That included Chief Ross, who was invited by Andy - she is smart, obviously they have good numbers but the more she proves that, the more Natasha can make the station get better benefits.
- Okay 19, dispatch informed that the missing person is a 18 year old girl, her name is Francesca. She was last seen on an open field on the way to a small river close by. Francesca apparently was riding a horse, so be mindful of that.
Andy informed the team over their radios, and received back a couple of "Yes Chief!". All the women were in the Engine, while Travis and Ben were in the Aid Car, the rest of the men were on the Ladder truck.- Damn, horse riding? If that girl has fallen or something it might be even harder, she hasn't called anyone or something like that? Vic asked.
- They said we can ask whoever called them when we arrive.
With Andy's answer, Maya woke up a little more. She frowned and then laughed a little, causing everyone but Vic - the designated driver - to turn to her.
- I just realised, that place is right by the hotel Carina and I went to. It's a gorgeous area but yeah, very big. If Vic is right and she got hurt somehow, that will be a hard task.
- Maybe that's why they called the fire department as well and not just the police, they're suspicious something happened. Andy answered.
- Well it is a large area to cover, and we have far more equipment than police let's be honest. Chief Ross said as she looked to something on her phone.
