'come home on the weekend. she's sick and she's looking for you.'

It was the middle of the next semester when Sunoo suddenly got a text from his aunt. At first, he wanted to decline, seeing as he couldn't even find the time to eat on time, much less catch a flight back home on the spot.

But he found it difficult to get the text out of his mind, the very thought of him coming home when it was already too late plagued his imagination. That being said, Sunoo decided.

"I'm going home to Cebu City for a while."

Jungwon choked on his coffee when he heard the other break the news. "Really? How long?"

"Just the weekend."

"Can I come?"

"I mean," Sunoo says, deep in thought. "If you want to."

Jungwon decided to agree, sensing that there was more to it than what Sunoo said. "Great!... Everything is okay, though right?"

"I'm about to find out," Sunoo said.

They arrived at the Kim Residence in Beverly Hills Village soon after. From the outside, it looked like an old-style, post-Hispanic design with all the marble columns and clay barrel tiles. But upon entering, Jungwon was greeted by modern architecture. The first thing he sees is the floor-to-ceiling glass windows that stretched across the room, showing the entirety of the veranda and the luscious gardens that spread across the lot. Jungwon was not new to richness himself, but this type of wealth was something he did not expect.

"You like it?"

"Your house is beautiful, Sun."

"Well, it's the family's ancestral house. We all live elsewhere now, which is funny. We were from a family of Spaniards and Korean moguls who sold porcelain. So, yeah. Quite a bit of history here," Sunoo narrated.

"No wonder you could afford that condo, Sun."

Sunoo hummed. "Yeah..."

Sensing the sudden shift in mood, Jungwon turned his gaze to the picture frames on the walls.

"Sunoo?" A voice called out from what seemed to be the dining room.

"Lola!"

Sunoo runs to the person who just called him, an elderly and ancient woman sitting in her wheelchair with a maid pushing it behind her. Her skin was worn with time, but her eyes still held the light of youth. And Jungwon found that despite not being distinctly the same, Sunoo has his grandmother's eyes.

"I was looking forward to meeting you for so long. How is law school, palangga?"

"It's okay. I'm getting by."

His grandmother squeezes Sunoo's shoulder before she met Jungwon's eyes.

"Is this the friend that Jake keeps telling me about?"

"...And what has Jake been telling you, exactly?" Sunoo grumbled.

"Oh, nothing that you need to worry about," his grandma laughed. She turned to Jungwon again. "Hello, iho!"

Sunoo bows in respect, an involuntary habit when dealing with elders. "Hello, nice to meet you. My name is Jungwon Yang."

"What a handsome boy."

Jungwon gently smiles. "Thank you."

"Well come, come. Let's meet the others at the dining table. I hope you don't have any allergies, *iho*?"
