Standing outside the psych ward, Iris Ray St. Michaels, causally smoked her 3rd cigarette in the last 10 minutes, waiting for her father.
She wasn't usually a chain smoker, but the smoking helped her control her breathing.
Inhale...exhale...inhale...exhale.
Light and Repeat.
Hearing the squeaks of the nearly 20-year-old hatchback, Iris threw her cigarette on the ground and squashed it beneath her boot, watching as her father pulled up with all of the windows down.
"Hey there crazy! Hop in, tell me everything."
This was going to be a long ride.
Iris thought to herself, and she wasn't just talking about the car ride.
