In The Wheat and Barley

Not long after a memorable Saturday, Adriana made southern tea and chilled it over ice. She strolled out to the field of wheat and barley.

The earthen smell of the wispy tops of the agriculture was a sea of golds and brown. She met up with Aiden and shared a cold tea after he stumbled down off of his tractor. Early in the reaping season, they conversed about whether the mating of the sheep was successful. Aiden pulled out a piece of paper and began reading to her after he prefaced it, that if he didn't read it, he would never be able to tell her exactly what he needed to say to her.

The field his pulpit for his confessions evolved into a sudden rush of emotions as Aiden asked Adriana to stay indefinitely. The uncertainties of making that kind of transition flowed right into the passionate embrace with a kiss. Neither planned it nor did they become embarrassed by the show of affection amongst the wheat and barley. The alter of stone that Adriana spotted when she was on the train took on a new form in that spot.
Aiden was not a religious man but he found some in his sentimental and tender moments.
