While watching yoga on PBS and performing housekeeping, I was distracted by my own thoughts about the " next in life". I glanced at the television and saw an iguana run out into the space about 3 feet from the yoga instructor. The instructor was not aware of the creature behind herself and very happily proceeded with her exercises and direction. The iguana was not bothered by her presence and movement.
For the viewer it was a moment of holding one's breath. Was the iguana going to stampede at any moment or jump her from behind? Creepy stuff some might think, but it did get me to think about the " next" a little differently.
It can be intimidating and daunting and yet places the past in the past to make room for the new adventures. The better parts of life to fill the suitcases before departure. When I land, it is a hodgepodge of the better stuff, leaving the not so nice behind. She thought to herself, " It's time to put the suitcases away."
I went back to dancing in the dust and sheets and found a sense of satisfaction. Adriana didn't care much for surprises and she was not going to purposely let anything or anyone sneak up on her and catch her by surprise.
Aiden, on the other hand, had a perplexing dilemma to address.
His suitcase contents was more of the all work and no wife bachelor lifestyle. He needed and wanted both. The balance, therefore prosperity, was right there. What was it that he wanted for barn art?To explore that question without it being obtrusive, she staged a picnic near the blueberry grove. Gritty cornbread and her secret family recipe of navy beans were just right for this inquisition.
The art in it was not to be too pushy or forward, but to ease into the response without causing distrust. Her charisma was used to entice him with a current event about a barn build. A game of cat and mouse, teasing and taunting until Aiden livened up and took a piece of paper out of his pocket. He sketched a picture of a faceless character carrying the mortgage deed in one hand and a fountain pen/ lighter in the other. Essentially, an image reflecting some allusive bank robber from the past. So allusive that he could escape a WW1 sniper on foot.
He told her it wasn't the crime or the capture.
If he had to pick a portrait, it would be about the efforts he has made to keep the ranch. His parents were promised he would never let them enter into a nursing home and lose the ranch.
Adriana had a a feeling there was more to the story and rested at the idea that he gave her what he wanted her to have in that place and time.
