It was 1985. You made a sudden appearance in the human world, startling to outright scaring civilians. You tried asking for directions to any organization that kills Devils for a living, only to be met with terrified screams calling you a devil. You quickly adjusted your spoken language to Japanese just from hearing the civilians.

Y/n: "A devil? Where," you asked loudly, hoping someone might answer.

You walk around to find signs of any such organization. However, policemen and Devil Hunters alike have got you surrounded. You put your hands up and the policemen cuff them.

Y/n: "Um, may I know what's going on, officers," you asked sheepishly.

???: "I apologize on behalf of my colleagues," an older-looking gentleman spoke up. "My name is Kishibe, a Devil Hunter of the Public Safety Devil Hunters' Tokyo Special Division 1. We are here to investigate the appearance of an unknown devil around the area. However, seeing as you're the only civilian left around here, we have reason to suspect that you might be the devil in question. So lower your guard and come with us."

You keep quiet since you don't know how the law works nowadays. It's been so long since you visited the human world. The last time was in 1945; a time when you realized how destructive humans can be compared to devils.

You are taken into a building with your hands still cuffed. From the looks of it, this must be where Devil Hunters, Kishibe mentioned, base their operations. There were a couple of majins roaming around like it was their day job. A majin is a devil that has taken over a person's corpse and has distinctive features that make them stand out as such. They may not be as powerful as they used to be but they still have superhuman feats.

Kishibe: "This is the Public Safety Devil Hunters HQ. Make yourself at home," he remarked.

Y/n: "I thought I was going in slammers after getting interrogated," you sighed in relief.

Kishibe: "Don't get your hopes up, devil. That is not for me to decide. You will be meeting with the big boss lady herself. She will decide whether or not you're worth keeping," he said dismissively.

You and Kishibe go up the elevator with one other Devil Hunter. You reach the floor of the boss' office and made your way there. As you entered, a soothing yet authoritative voice spoke from the desk.

Boss Lady: "It's nice to meet you, Mr. Devil. I heard that you've caused quite the commotion downtown. That won't do," she spoke calmly. "I am Makima, the head of the Public Safety Devil Hunters. What is yours, Mr. Devil?"

Y/n: "Hello, Miss Makima. I go by L/n Y/n. And for the record, I am not a devil," you tried lying.

Makima: "Oh, really now. Then care to explain why we have witnesses saying that you appeared out of thin air? That is not exactly a human feat."

Y/n: "Well, um," you stammered your words, trying to come up with a story. "I came from another world. You know, like in anime and manga."

Makima: "Interesting. I am familiar with the concept. Do you have any 'special powers' as these protagonists from another world? We could use more firepower, whether or not you are a devil."

Y/n: "Sure. I've actually been looking for an organization like this," you say enthusiastically.

Makima: "Oh? You might already know this, but becoming a Devil Hunter is not a pretty occupation and you may very well die, assuming you are human. Most become Devil Hunters because of the pay, others do it for personal reasons. Might I ask what your reason is?"

Y/n: "Because it's fun," you said with an ominous smile.

Makima seemed to be satisfied with your answer. Kishibe seemed to like your guts, while the other Devil Hunter was unnerved by your response.

Makima: "Good answer. Welcome to the Public Safety Devil Hunters Association, L/n. I will assign Captain Kishibe here to be your mentor. Whether or not you are human, I'm sure you will be of use to us against the devils threatening humanity. Dismissed."
