Chapter 8. Heir of the Bourbon's
Mira guided me back to the bed, with Sir Bourbon, or rather, Giorgio, following closely behind. I settled myself at the edge of the bed, while he took a seat on the chair placed beside it.
I still can't figure out what's the meaning behind the weird look and smirk he did earlier. But it was as if he was looking at something amusing.
"Then I shall begin the young lady's examination," Sir Giorgio announced.
Did he really need to say that? Couldn't he just start the supposed examination right away? Ang daming arte ha?
I just want to get this over with. There are still many things I need to ponder. However, with this number of people present in the same location as me, it's inevitable that I won't be able to concentrate.
Giorgio retrieved a folder from his medical bag, along with his stethoscope. I'm surprised they already have stethoscopes in this era.
But oh well, this is the world inside a novel, after all. Such items are created by the author, who is also living in the modern era. But, unlike the modern era, this world lacks the advanced technology of my past life.
After fifteen minutes of examining my body and asking numerous questions, it finally ended. Sigh. I thought it would never end.
Giorgio removed the stethoscope from his ears and retrieved the folder from the table. He reviewed the contents written inside before speaking.
"Other than a minor scratch on her leg, the young lady appears to have sustained no serious injuries from the accident."
I breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing his words. Honestly, I didn't even notice that I had a small scratch on my leg from the broken vase. It didn't hurt at all.
"Oh, enlighten us, Sir Bourbon, how do you plan to explain the baffling phenomenon of my lady's memory loss? Are we to believe she miraculously developed a case of convenient amnesia?" Mira's voice dripped with sarcasm as she posed her question.
I couldn't help but suppress a smirk as I turned to observe Sir Giorgio's reaction. However, he maintained his composure, seemingly unfazed.
"Miss Vargas, I request you to remain composed. I must confess that I am also perplexed by the situation. Regrettably, I find myself unable to determine the underlying cause of the young lady's memory loss. It is a source of personal disappointment to me."
Mira flicked her tongue. "And you call yourself a physician? What a joke."
Sir Bourbon's ears seemed to perk up at Mira's words.
"Forgive me, Miss Vargas, but it appears you have chosen to address me informally. Allow me to remind you of the distinction in our respective status."
"Oh, do accept my humblest apologies, my esteemed Lord," Mira retorted, laden with dripping sarcasm.
Oh! That's intriguing. Should I get a soda and some popcorn?
Ah! Hold on a moment. Wasn't I supposed to intervene and stop their bickering? Right! That's what I should be doing. These two are like cats and dogs, constantly at odds with each other.
However, I must admit that Sir Giorgio doesn't come across as a bad person. He genuinely put in effort to examine me and search for a possible explanation for my faked "memory loss," even though I knew he wouldn't find anything.
And let's not forget, he's quite easy on the eyes. Faces like his are a rarity in the world I once inhabited during my previous life.
Though, if I had to choose, I still prefer Nunu's face. Oh, how I wish I could have brought a poster of him into this world. Ugh, the struggles!
⟨ Nunu - a nickname of Cha Eun Woo (차 은우), a member of a kpop boy group named Astro, an actor and a model. ⟩
Anyways, I must put an end to their incessant bickering before my ears burst from the strain.
"Ahem! Could I kindly request that the two of you cease your quarrel?"
Once again, I was taken aback by the sound of my own voice. When will I ever get accustomed to this unfamiliar tone that now accompanies me? I sounded like a small child - although the body that I am possessing right now is indeed a child.
Well, hearing them call Cassia a young lady then she could most probably be at the age of her early teens right now. Although I can't believe she has a short and thin body. Just what on earth is she eating everyday?
Both Sir Giorgio and Mira turned towards me, visibly startled. It took them a moment to realize the gravity of their actions.
They should truly be ashamed. I mean, seriously? They had to pick a fight right in front of me. They resembled a bickering married couple from my past life who couldn't keep their mouths shut and always found a reason to argue, whether it was day or night. Tsk.
Releasing a sigh of exasperation, I let the other maids know to leave my room, ensuring that only Mira and Sir Bourbon remained. Once everyone had exited, I faced the two of them.
"I won't ask about the nature of your relationship, as that is your private affair. However, I plead you both to ensure that you are alone before engaging in your incessant bickering."
Both of them lowered their heads in acknowledgment, seemingly reflecting on their behavior. While I claimed disinterest in prying into their personal matters, though I must admit, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of curiosity.
As someone who had read a whole bunch of romance novels, this kind of plot seems pretty obvious for me. Even though I may have not been in a relationship even in my past life, you could still at least learn things about love from books.
And yes, you read it right. This girl of yours is a part of the NBSB association. Well, the hell I care about having a boyfriend anyway? It's not I'll die if I don't have one.
But . . . Giorgio Bourbon, huh?
It's not just my own future that I'm determined to change, but also Mira's. In this new life, I won't waste any opportunity that comes my way. And if this man, Giorgio, meets all my criteria, he could prove to be a valuable asset in achieving my goals.
I'll make it sure that Mira would have a happy ending, unlike her character from the original novel. I won't let that happen. Not on my watch.
