Albert couldn't take it anymore. He stepped forward and barely connected his lips to Races. It was hesitant and as soon as it happened Albert pulled away. His eyes winded.
"Race- im- I'm just gonna go." Albert pulled away and left. He ran out of the lodging house and to an alleyway. He sat down and tried to catch his breath. What had he just done? He ruined his friendship, why did he have to open his mouth and talk? Race probably still had some type of feelings for Spot. Albert groaned and got up. This was going to be a long night.
---------------------
Race walked up to the bunkrooms a blush spreading across his face.
"Woah, what happened to you Racer, your bright red." Specs smiled from his bunk.
"Albert just kissed me." Specs stood up and walked straight over to him.
"He what."
"He said he loved me and he kissed me and I...I wanted him to do it again but he ran off." Spec's face softened.
"What about Spot?" Race sighed. Now or never.
"He cheated on me." Race looked away. It was still hard to think about.
"Do you still have feelings for him?" Specs asked a slight tone of worry in his voice.
"No, I- I think I love him too. Wait a damn minute I love him, I love Albert. Thank you specs thank you I'm gonna go- im- okay." Race ran out and into the streets looking for the boy he loved.
------------------------
Nightfall came and Albert walked back to the lodging house. He guessed it was sometime around 9:00 maybe 10:00. He climbed the fire escape and onto the roof. The moon was full and bright, the stars brighter even. It was a beautiful evening, a perfect night to talk to the stars. He hoisted himself up onto the roof. He froze. Race was laying in the middle looking up at the stars. He sat up as soon as he saw Albert.
"Hey, I was looking for you all night where have you been." Albert walked slowly over to Race and sat down.
"Race."
"Albert."
"Race, I'm so so sorry, I should've done that."
"Alberts it's okay I-" Race was cut off. Albert had tears welling up in his eyes at this point.
"No, it's not ok, I kissed you. You were just starting to heal and I went a did that. I should've taken your feelings into mind before but I didn't and it was the stupidest thing I've ever done and I'm so so sorry,"
"Albert." Race tried to get his attention.
"It was a stupid thing to do, and you probably don't even like me back and you still like Spot and,"
"Albert." Race tried again.
"I feel so bad, I completely understand if you want to stop being friends, it's my fault, and I get it, sorry again, Race." Albert started to get up to leave. At least he got to explain himself before he got his heart broken.
"Wait!" Race grabbed his hand. He felt a blush spreading across his face and down to his chest. Albert loved him. Albert Dasilva was in love with Racetrack Higgins. And as it turned out Race was in love with him too. Race stood up.
'I ain't good with words so I'm gonna keep this short." And Race stepped forward, their faces inches apart. Albert looked down at Race's lips. Race smiled and placed his hands on Albert's hips pulling him closer.
"I love you too." After waiting for months and months on end they finally got what they wanted. Race brought his lips to Alberts. Fireworks exploded around them, in a thousand different colors. Butterflies erupted in their stomachs. Albert smiled into the kiss. It was gentle but hungry after waiting for so long. Hearts beating out of their chests Albert brought his hands to Races next and pulled him in a passionate, knee-weakening kiss. This felt right to them. It felt too amazing for them to stop. Race smiled and brought his hands up to Albert's shoulders. Race pulled away first.
"Albert."
"Race." The two boys smiled at each other again eyes filled with love.
"Please, just kiss me again," Albert said wrapping his arms around Race's back. Race pulled him in again this time, more sure. Race wanted to kiss Albert forever. It was the best feeling in the world. Race kissed Albert harder, needed more. It never felt like this with Spot. It always felt awkward and rushed. This felt right, this felt like love. Race pulled him closer, his hands moved up to Albert's lower back. Albert pulled back, breathless. Albert leaned his head on Races, both breathy heavily and smiling.
"I love you." Race whispered burying his nose in the crook of Albert's neck.
"I love you too."
