Chapter 9: Temple Frogs

(At the Boonchuy residence, Anne runs downstairs filled with emotion.)

Anne: "Plantars, assemble!"

Hop Pop: "Present!"

Polly: "What's up?"

Sprig: "Any news?"

Anne: "I got a text from Dr. Jan!" (shows them a text on her phone) "It says, "Come see when you've got a moment! I think I found something!" Which means, the sooner we talk to her, the sooner we get you home!" (the Plantars cheered) "I'll call Kevin so he can come with." (about to text Kevin but her mother, who was holding three trays of food, stops her)

Mrs. Boonchuy: "Oh, good. You're here. Help us (Mr. Boonchuy opens the back trunk of the car) finish loading the car."

Sprig: "No problem, Mrs. Boonchuy!"

Hop Pop: "We'd be glad to help!"

Polly: "I can't carry much, but okay."

Anne: "Okay. But then we gotta get to the museum."

Mrs. Boonchuy: "No way. It's market day at the Thai Temple and we are all going to be there."

Anne: "But Mom!" (makes puppy face) "It's super important!"

Mrs. Boonchuy: "So is this. The Thai community hasn't seen you since you came back. And this is the perfect opportunity."

Anne: "But-"

Mrs. Boonchuy: (points at Anne) "No but! Look, I'll make you a deal. Just stay for one full hour, then you can go do whatever."

Anne: (groans) "Fine." (with a frown look)

Mrs. Boonchuy: (with a smug look) "Oh, and did I forgot to mention Kevin is coming with us?"

Anne: (widens her eyes; gasps) "He's coming!? Here!?" (smile) "Well, what are we waiting for then?!" (grabs the stuff and puts it in the trunk)

Hop Pop: (carries three plates of food) "Market day? Temple?"

Mr. Boonchuy: "It's a monthly (Hop Pop hands the plates to him.) all-day event at the Thai Temple! Everyone gathers for food, music, sports, dance, and Thai language school. It's- uhhh..."

(Anne turns and sees two students taking pictures of the Boonchuys.)

Anne: "HEY!" (the two students gasp) "I see you! Desi, Rico." (Desi and Rico run away.)

Mr. Boonchuy: "What was that all about?"

Anne: "Ugh. Nosy gossip bloggers from the school paper trying to get an exclusive photo of "the girl who went missing"."

Mr. Boonchuy: "Oh! Well I got some (grabs his phone and hangs it up) photos they can use! Here's you eating spaghetti when you were two. Oh! (swipes to the next photo) And here's you when you were-"

Anne: (covers the phone with both of her hands) "Dad! Oh my gosh! Stop!" (runs after him)

Mr. Boonchuy: "NEVER!!!" (stops) "Oops! Uh-oh, hehe..."

Anne: "What, dad?"

Mr. Boonchuy: "I think I may have...sent the photos to Kevin." (with a nervous smile)

Anne: (facepalms) "I'm ruined." (thoughts) 'Great. He's gonna think I'm weird.'

(Cut to Kevin, who is walking to Anne's house and ready to help her parents at the Thai Temple, when suddenly, he received a message.)

Kevin: "Huh, what's this?" (picks up his phone and opening the message, only to blush to see Anne as a kid before smiling a bit) "Oh, I'm so going to keep these." (saving the photos before putting his phone away and continues walking)
