Day 5

I wake up before my alarm has a chance to ring, I fell asleep early last night for once. All that bike riding made me exhausted, and luckily I made it home before Charlotte or my dad even noticed I was gone.

I brush my teeth and slide my grey jogger styled scrub pants and matching grey scrub top with my green long sleeve shirt under. It's still and dark outside so I won't be sweating as much as I normally would.

I grab my bag packing my laptop and chargers for the day along with my water bottle, a change of clothes and a towel. With this whole tail thing you always gotta be prepared.

I hurry down the steps and to the back of the stairs where I started locking my bike up, its way easier then having to carry it over my head between the cars every time.

I climb onto my bike as I pedal off to start the day at my first official shift, the beginning of my future.

I reach the hospital locking my bike on the side as I walk into the lit up building, it's 7:30, I'm sure everyone is getting here soon. I sit in the waiting area waiting for Crystal or someone so I can figure out what I'm supposed to do.

This tall skinny guy walks in, big round clear glasses on his nose and his short brown hair pointing in various directions. He looks around giving me a smile walking over as I jump up onto my feet, "cinderella?" he asks and I nod holding my hand out.

"You can call me Ella"

He shakes it giving me a smile, "I'm Jackson I started interning her last year so I'll be showing you around"

"thanks, its nice to meet you"

"alright this way, we basically just check all the exam rooms, make sure the chairs are in their spots, the gloves and everything is stocked" he explains while we walk into the rooms.

We check all the rooms, he shows me where the supply closet is in case I ever have to restock. The nurses arrive along with the doctors as I hear more voices walking into the building, "over there is the ORs, we get to watch some of them"

"really?" I jump up, "thats so cool"

"yea it is, you learn a lot Dr. O'Rourke is an amazing mentor and teaches really well, he makes you feel smart not dumb"

"I love him already" we walk back to the front where everyone is drinking coffee and chatting.

"morning guys, meet Ella our new comer"

"aw a new puppy"

"Hi Ella its nice to have you join us" one of the doctors walks up to me shaking my hand, "I'm Dr. O'Rourke its a pleasure to meet you"

"thanks everyone" I look around the room giving them all a smile.

A little jingle goes off on one of the phones, "alright people we're officially open" one of the women says as everyone walks off going to their jobs.

"alright we help around the phones, papers, exams, everything really"

"alright, lets get started"

I smile as I ride my bike down the sidewalk the warm breeze against my face normally its gross, but today was such a good day. I got to spend the day with dogs, cats, little bunnies, and meeting everyone who works there. It was really cool.

They aren't open this weekend, only a nurse and doctor is on call. Today was a great day, Dr. O'Rourke was really helpful teaching me all these things, plus he is a literal genius.

I pedal down the roads as a few cars ride by, I smile when I finally smell the salty breeze. Maybe this whole moving here wasn't such a bad thing. I take a sharp and fast turn onto the street seeing the roof of my room, home sweet home.

I roll onto the driveway seeing my dads surprised face through the windshield when he saw me.

"Where were you?!" his voice is loud and booming as he opens the car door hoping out, "did you run away?" he asks slamming the door to his car.

"wooh, I had to go to my internship or else I would get kicked out, I tried to tell you but you didn't answer my calls" I snapped back at him as I looks shocked.

"internship?"

"yeah at the shadow hills animal hospital, I need the experience"

"I heard they're one of the top animal hospitals in the state" he mentions sounding proud for once.

"they have one of the largest surgery centers in the west cost" I said nodding my head as I push the bike under my stairs locking it in place.

"shadow hills? thats an hour by bike" he exclaims as I walk back shrugging.

"yea, I left early"

"why didn't you just ask for a ride"

"you didn't answer your phone, plus it's good exercise" I tell him as I walk towards the house, i'm starving.

"its dangerous to go alone" he reasons following me inside the kitchen.

"I'm fine, don't worry"

"no this is ridiculous I thought you didn't want a car" he says looking over at Charlotte who shrugs giving him a clueless stare.

"who told you that? cause you never asked me" I mumble while I eat a tuna sandwich.

"I-uh" he stumbles across his own words.

"where were you guys anyways?" I asked biting into my tuna moaning at how good it tastes, it would be better with more tuna and less mayo.

"we were uhm..." he itches the back of his neck, again, its a habit he has when he is going to lie or is scared.

"well I gotta shower and do some homework, I'll see you guys later" I give them both a smile as I walk outside to head up to my room.

I hear wheels against the gravel and turn to see the twins driving into the house with two brand new convertibles one red and one white. So thats where they were.

"thanks for the new car dad!" they both cheer pulling out of the drive way, one after another, speeding down the road.

I turn back to look at my dad who stares at my dumbfounded, like I caught him red handed. I head up to my room locking the door behind me as I let out a deep breath. I can't wait till I graduate.

I pull my laptop out as I start working on my assignments for the week.
