Tw: Mentions of blood.
[ 3rd person ]
Knuckles was leaned against the master emerald, eyes closed and arms crossed. He was ready to face anybody who tried to even step near it.
Night had fallen, and small droplets of rain hit the ground. Knuckles opened an eye, examining how the floor was quickly being covered by smaller dots. He stepped back walked to a covered stone-patio he had built. This was, he could stay out of the rain and keep watch on the master emerald at the same time.
Knuckles jumped slightly as he heard a loud crash in the distance. He ran to the edge of his floating rock and looked down to see Shadow. He had crashed into a rock and struggled to stand. He stood up and gripped his arm, cursing under his breath.
[ Shadow POV ]
I gripped my arm tightly, wincing at the pressure. Even though it hurt, it kept the blood from running down it. I cursed under my breath and looked around. I was at Angel Island.
So this is where I ended up, huh.
My shoes had given out as I was running, and I crashed into a big stone, leaving a big gash in my right arm.
I sighed and stood still for a second. I reached into my quills for my chaos emerald. I needed to get home and heal the wound in my arm, but when I reached into my quills, the emerald wasn't there.
"What!?" I said to my self, looking around panicked. I finally spotted the bright green gem sitting under the pile of rocks I had crashed into. I picked it up held it in front of me.
"What brings you here?" A deep voice said. I whipped around and saw a familiar face. Knuckles.
"None of your business." I grumbled. Sticking the chaos emerald back into my quills. I crossed my arms and started at him coldly.
"Actually, it is my business. This is my island and I'm the sword guardian of the emerald, and I have every right to know why you're here." Knuckles said with a menacing glare. He wasn't joking around, and I respected him for it.
I rolled my eyes, "Fine, if you must know, my shoes broke down and I crashed into that big pile of rocks behind me." I said with a scowl. Knuckles looked down at my arm and chuckled.
"Funny how the ultimate life form still managed to get injured in the process." He said with a smug grin. I growled turned my back towards him walking away, pulling the chaos emerald out of my quills again. I was so done with this red idiot.
"You know, you wont be able to chaos control with that bad of an injury." Knuckles shouted. I stopped and looked over my shoulder.
"And how would you know?" I growled annoyed. Knuckles rolled his eyes and walked up to me.
"I've studied the history of the master emerald for ages, and how it connects with the chaos emeralds. I'm kind of supposed to know." He said crossing his arms. "You won't be able to teleport home unless that wound is at least semi-healed."
"Well I'll just heal it myself then." I said getting up into his face.
"Then you'll drain all your energy. How are you supposed to chaos control without it?" Knuckles replied calmly, arms still crossed. I huffed. He had a point.
"Fine. Then what do you suggest?" I said coldly. A smug grin rose on his face. He knew he was right, and he knew he had gotten on Shadow's nerves.
"You'll probably have to stay the night." Knuckles said walking away. He looked up and jumped up onto his floating island. He reached out his hand towards me, waiting for me to grab it. I rolled my eyes and looked away.
"I can get up myself." I grumbled.
Knuckles scoffed. "Not with that wound, dimwit."
I quickly turned my head to him and gave him a cold glare. "What did you call me?" I shouted with a growl. Knuckles rolled his eyes.
"Just grab my hand, won't ya?" He said, extending it farther. I huffed and grabbed his hand. I felt my weight being lifted off the ground as he pulled me up with ease. I flushed a little bit realizing how strong he was. He could best me in a fight if he tried hard enough. I might as well try to stay on his good side.
. . .
Knuckles wrapped the last bandage around my arm and broke the cloth roughly.
"Ow!" I growled. "Can't you be a little less harsh!?"
Knuckles stood up, brushing himself off. "What? The ultimate life form can't handle a little pressure?"
I was about to lash back when I was interrupted by a sneeze. What the? I sneezed again, sniffing afterwards. Knuckles broke out into laughter.
"Oh no! Look's like the ultimate life form has a cold." He said with a smug grin.
"Shut up." I growled, wiping my nose.
"Nah, I think I'm good." Knuckles laughed, walking towards an area with plants. He picked up a few flowers and brought them to a cup of hot water. He dropped them in and watched them seep into the liquid.
Knuckles picked up the dark-pink liquid and stood in front of me, handing me the cup. I looked at him suspiciously. He rolled his eyes.
"It's tea. It'll help ease your injury, and help with your cold." He grumbled. I huffed and took the cup from his hands. I took in a deep breath inhaling the floral smell. I sighed. It definitely was calming.
Taking a sip, I sat down under the covered stone-patio Knuckles had built. Knuckles joined me, but stood to my right, still watching the master emerald.
"You could sit down, ya know." I said. He looked at me and shook his head.
"I have to keep watch over the emerald at all times. I can't let anything distract me." He said in response.
"And you can't watch it from the floor?" I said, slightly annoyed. He gave me a side look and arched a brow.
"Why do you want me to sit down so badly?" He asked, a confused tone creeping into his voice.
"Well maybe because I'm cold and need somebody to keep me warm!" I snapped. I covered my mouth and let out a small gasp. I did not just say that out loud. Knuckles grinned and walked over to me sitting down.
I could feel my face turn red and I covered it with my hands, trying to hide my embarrassment. Knuckles inched closer, and our shoulders brushed each other. I gave him a cold glare and he laughed.
"What? You wanted this." He said smugly. I turned and looked in the other direction.
"I didn't mean to say it out loud." I grumbled.
"You still said it. Even if you hadn't said it, you still thought about it." Knuckles said with a shrug, making my face flush. A flash of lightning broke into the sky, and a loud boom was heard shortly after. I pinned my ears to my head and scooted closer to the echidna beside me.
If there was anything I hated more, it would be thunderstorms. I wasn't scared of them, they were pretty fascinating actually, but Maria would always talk about them. How she wanted to see one. They always reminded me of her, and one thing leads to another.
"What? Scared?" Knuckles said, grinning. I shook my head.
"Just bad memories." I replied dryly. His smile faded slowly and he looked forward, thinking of what to say.
"Sorry." He whispered. I glanced over at him quickly.
"You did nothing wrong. Don't be sorry." I grumbled. "It just reminds me of the ark, that's all." I said. I could feel my eyes grow heavy and needed rest. I leaned my head on Knuckles' shoulder and shut my eyes. I could feel him tense up. He opened his mouth to speak but I cut him off.
"Don't get used to it, echidna." I said in a low voice. He closed his mouth and looked to the ground. I let myself relax and felt the warmth of the soft red fur against my head. He chuckled and rested his head on mine.
"Whatever you say, Shad."
