I awoke to the sun shining through the trees while the forest wind whistling in my ears and the leaves rustling all over the forest, the air was refreshing. I looked around to see if the boy was alright but he was gone. I pounced out of my 'bed', looking left and right hoping that I could see him. The fire was still lit so he must be near. I walked around the wood for a while hoping that I could find him. There was no sign of him so I went back to where we set up camp and I found him cooking something above the fire. He sprung back in fear. "hey its alright, if it wasn't for me you would be dead." he looked down in sadness and repeated the word dead then went silent. I approached him in a careful manner "hey don't be sad, do you remember my name?" I asked him hoping for a reply. "My mum" he said "what?" I looked at him in confusion.
(Boy's POV)
"I need to go back and get my mum" I told her and got up to leave, but then I felt an ice cold hand grab my wrist "hey where do you think your going?" Ashley asked "why are your hands so cold?" she looked at me "It's just a fault that comes with my abilities." she said letting go of me. "Abilities?"
"yeah, I have ice abilities that is why I'm so cold all the time and don't actually feel the cold."
"wow that is so cool"
"didn't you know there were mutants in the world"
"Mutants?"
"yeah like you and me."
"Wait what, I don't have any special abilities." I looked at her in confusion "Yes you do, let me show you" ice started to form on the ground as she touched it with her hand, the temperature dropped about 25 degrees Celsius and ice formed infront of me. I could see myself in the mirror that was created in front of me, I was startled by what I was seeing. There were a pair of white feathery wings which had a wing span bigger than a golden eagles. Dropping my jaw in shock, I couldn't believe what I was seeing, my body stiffened like a statue.
(Ashley's POV)
He just stood there with his jaw wide open, he then shakes his head in disbelief. "I have to go back" his voice was shaky. "No you can't..."
"Why not!!!! You know nothing about me!!! Just go away and leave me alone!" He screamed at me. "Listen you almost died last night if you go back you would be putting your self in danger!"
"No I have to go back!"
"Why are you so eager to go back!" He looked at the ground lost in thought "Because my mother died before I left" a lump builds up in his throat, his eyes were waterlogged with tears. He places himself on a log, I couldn't believe what he just said "I'm sorry to hear that" I sat down beside him. Comforting him, I wrapped my arm around his shoulder "if you want I'll come with you, I understand what your going through" my voice lowers in volume "my dad died when I was 15...." I told him what happened to my father. He looked up at me and tears fell from his face.
Pulling him into a hug, trying to comfort him. I could hear him sniffle behind my ear "it's alright I'll look after you" he hugs me tighter "listen I've got your back don't worry I'll always be here for you, for now on.... Ok."
"Ok" his voice trembles into nothing, silence filled the air. Everything around us went black as if someone had poisoned our surroundings. The air was still; a dark cloud covered us as mist flooded through the forest. I knew exactly what was happening "we need to leave." Fear builds up inside of me.
A shriek came from deep inside the woods and it was getting closer "it can't be..." My mouth swung open, body was stiff like a statue I couldn't move. I could feel the cold air brush past my face as it went pale. The smell of death was lingering in the air, Darksoul I thought to myself "Ok we need to go like right now" my voice sounding panicked. "What was that?" He asked with uncertainty.
(Boy's POV)
Ashley grabbed my arm and dragged me through the woods. The cold air swiftly hitting my face as we ran through the wild forest. My heart rate was increasing immensely, I wasn't sure what we were running from but I did know that it was dangerous. Another shriek emerged from behind us, "no, no, no, no this can't be happening." She said as tears were about to spill out of her eyes.
My body stopped dead; my body temperature started to rapidly increase. The heat exhaled from my skin into the cold air and I felt my eyes flare up. Ashley was screaming in the distance telling me to move but her voice slowly disappeared. It was lost in the gust of wind. I turned to face my opponent, the darkness was now surrounding me. I could finally see what I was up against. It had red eyes and was black all over with one million and one screams coming out of the things mouth. It was going to go in for the kill, my hand stretched out while my arm locked into place "stop" I whispered and the shadows became immobilised.
Curious of knowing what these things actually were, I approached it. My body pivoted around this demon too see Ashley trying to process what just happened. She looked at me then the black figure "how did you..." She walked toward me "how did you do that?" She asked as she shook her head in disbelief. I was trying to come up with a realistic explanation but I wasn't able to do so "I don't know." I looked at her with a puzzled look on my face. "It was like there was a gap in my mind when I encountered it" I told her. The look of disbelief materialized on her face. I turned my attention back to the shadowed misty figure.
"So what is it?" I asked "that my friend is a Darksoul. They are basically demons at their worst. If you are caught by one of these then you're technically fucked." she explained "Really, how come?" Ashley looked at me with an are you serious face "well when you encounter one of these bastards the compel you to walk towards them but that's only if your eyes meet theirs, and when its close enough it sucks your petrified soul out of your body. "She gave me a slight smile and started to walk in the opposite direction. I stepped away from this dark creature and its hand slightly moved. "Come on we need to go." I didn't even think about questioning Ashley and followed her.
The further away we were from the Darksouls the lighter it got, the place was filled with life and the fresh air gently hit my face. The sensation was amazing, until I recognised where we were. There was a huge wooden building, looked beautiful and warm it was about fifteen metres tall with stunning glass windows. I rushed to my front door in a panic, then hesitated, I looked back at Ashley for guidance, she smiled at me sympathetically and nodded her head telling me I should go in so I did.
